On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will take on the Toronto Raptors for the second time in three nights. The Sixers are clinging to a half game lead on the top seed in the Eastern Conference at 20-11. The Raptors are 16-15 on the season, including a win over Philadelphia on Sunday night.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Raptors betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Sixers vs. Raptors Betting Pick (February 23, 2021)

The Philadelphia 76ers have seen their lead for the top seed in the Eastern Conference crumble away following a 2-4 stretch over their last six games. The Sixers suffered their fourth loss in that stretch on Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors in a 110-103 result. MVP candidate Joel Embiid struggled from the field, shooting just 6-20 from the field and 1-3 from beyond the arc. To his credit, he still got to the free throw line 14 times in the game, a number matched by point guard Ben Simmons. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, Embiid and Simmons were two of just four Sixers to earn a trip to the charity stripe. The Sixers will need Tobias Harris to put on a better performance tonight than in Sunday’s game when he contributed just 13 points and four rebounds.

The Toronto Raptors were impressive in Sunday night’s win, when they were without their third-leading scorer and second-leading assist provider Kyle Lowry. While Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet’s 23 point-performances each met expectations, it was a breakout 17-point performance from third-year forward Chris Boucher that ultimately broke Philadelphia’s back. Lowry has been upgraded to questionable for this one and could fundamentally shift the expectations ahead of this matchup.

Raptors to Win and Under 222 Points (+280, DraftKings)

Toronto has had a ton of success against Philadelphia at home over the past few seasons. In fact, they’ve won 19 of 20 games against the Sixers at home overall. Toronto managed to take down Philadelphia on Sunday night without Kyle Lowry, who’s critical to the Raptors’ offensive flow.

The Raptors also held Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to a combined 12-37 from the field while daring Ben Simmons to be the one to beat them. The strategy paid off in a 110-103 win. Toronto also got versatile defender Danny Green in foul trouble, eventually leading to the wing fouling out with over six minutes remaining in the game.

Given the historical precedent at home and Toronto’s recent play, it’s difficult to pick against them in this one.

As for the under, Philadelphia has seen the total points go under the 222 point threshold in each of their last two games, while Toronto has seen the same trend over their last three games, including Sunday night’s contest between these two squads.

Fred VanVleet Over 19.5 Points and Raptors to Win (+220, FOX Bet)

Although Kyle Lowry’s questionable status could affect the upside of Fred VanVleet’s scoring chances, there’s reason to believe he could build off his 23-point performance against Philadelphia two nights ago.

VanVleet has scored at least 22 points in three of his last five games. The two games he failed to cross the 19.5 point threshold came in a shooting slump where he went just 9-35 from the field. Although he failed to do so in the first meeting between the teams this season, he was successful in doing so twice in four games against the Sixers a season ago.

Keep an eye on Kyle Lowry’s status to determine how much you want to put on VanVleet to score over 19.5 points.

If you believe the Raptors will win their second consecutive game over the Sixers, this one will pay out a higher profit with a reasonable qualifier.

Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to Combine For Over 54.5 Points (+175, FOX Bet)

This is a bet we absolutely love for a number of reasons. Embiid and Harris have combined for at least 55 points in two of their last five games, but at least 52 points in four of their last five:

  • @ Toronto: Embiid 25, Harris 13 (38 points)
  • v. Chicago: Embiid 50, Harris 22 (77 points)
  • v. Houston: Embiid 31, Harris 24 (55 points)
  • @ Phoenix: Embiid 35, Harris 18 (53 points)
  • @ Portland: Embiid 35, Harris 17 (52 points)

It’s worth noting that Embiid and Harris had an absolutely dreadful night from the field on Sunday, combining to shoot just 12-37 from the field and 2-12 from beyond the arc. The saving grace for the duo was Embiid’s ability to draw fouls to the tune of 14 free throw attempts. On the flip-side, Harris didn’t attempt a single free throw, as he opted to take more than half of his shots from deep.

The Sixers’ top two scorers should be able to cross the 54.5 total point threshold in a bounceback performance.

Note: A $100 max bet would pay out $275.

Tobias Harris to Record a Double Double (+310, FOX Bet)

Prior to Sunday night’s game, Tobias Harris had been on a bit of a tear, recording convincing double double performances in three straight games, and six of eight games overall.

Harris tends to tear down boards when his shots are dropping and vice versa. His 6-17 performance from the field was a confidence killer, while his nine shots from deep removed the potential for offensive rebounds and put-back opportunities.

This is worth taking a flier on.

Sixers vs. Raptors Prediction

Pick: Although we expect a better shooting night from Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris, it’s hard to pick against a Raptors team that’s gone 19-1 against Philadelphia at home over their last twenty matchups. Take Toronto to Win.
