On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will play host to the New York Knicks. The Sixers enter play at 27-12, which is the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks enter play at 20-20, which has them firmly in seventh place in the East.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Knicks betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Sixers vs. Knicks Betting Pick (March 16, 2021)

The Philadelphia 76ers will host the New York Knicks at Wells Fargo Center for the first time this season. The teams last met on December 26, 2020, with the Sixers walking away with a 109-89 victory. In that game, MVP candidate Joel Embiid racked up 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a dominant performance. The Sixers will be without their franchise center for at least the next two weeks following a bone bruise diagnosis after hyperextending his knee in a landing from a dunk.

Philadelphia didn’t miss a beat in Sunday’s drubbing of the San Antonio Spurs as they coasted to a 134-99 blowout victory. Tobias Harris led the team in scoring with 23 points, while sharpshooter Seth Curry contributed 21 points. Furkan Korkmaz (16), Danny Green (16), Ben Simmons (14), and Matisse Thybulle (10) all dropped double-digit points in the 35-point victory.

The New York Knicks have surpassed even the most positive outlooks from this past offseason as they’ve played .500 ball on the season, while finding themselves in a legitimate position to make the postseason. Julius Randle and sophomore guard RJ Barrett have been massive for New York in their last two games, combining for 56 and 58 points. The Knicks are 2-2 in their last four games, including a 117-112 loss in their last game, but it’s worth noting the only other loss has come at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks, who own the Eastern Conference’s third-best record. The biggest issue they’ll face is having to take on the team with the best record in the conference on the second half of a back-to-back, with both games. coming on the road.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers a 81% chance of winning with a -9 point line. The oddsmakers are a little less bullish on this one with Philadelphia’s implied win probability based on the moneyline at 72%.

Sixers to Win and Over 218 Points (+148, DraftKings Sportsbook)

The Philadelphia 76ers enter play without franchise center Joel Embiid, who will miss his second consecutive game after hyperextending his knee following a brutal landing after a dunk against the Washington Wizards. Philadelphia played excellent defense and shot the ball well enough at home in their last game, riding a wave of momentum to a 35-point smackdown of the San Antonio Spurs. While the Sixers didn’t get otherworldly production at the center position from Tony Bradley (4 PTS/8 REB/ 4 AST) and Dwight Howard (8 PTS/ 8 REB/ 2 AST), it was good enough to draw some attention away from Philadelphia’s wing players.

The Knicks are on the second half of a road back-to-back that began with last night’s 117-112 defeat at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. Taking on the Top-2 teams in the East on back-to-back nights is bad, but they played the #3 seed Milwaukee Bucks three games ago as well. Talk about a brutal stretch. New York has lost 13 consecutive games against the Sixers dating back to December 25,  2017.

As for the over, 218 points isn’t a high bar to clear considering recent trends for these squads. The Sixers have seen the total scored in each of their last six games surpass 218 points. The Knicks have played some slightly lower-scoring affairs, but the over has hit in five consecutive games, including three games over 218 total points.

Julius Randle and RJ Barrett to Combine for Over 44.5 Points (+130, FOX Bet)

Although we expect the Eastern Conference’s top seed to protect their homecourt advantage, the Knicks duo of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett shouldn’t be counted out on the scoring side of things. Randle has racked up 25+ points in three of his last four games and four of his last six. He’s gone for at least 21 points in 17 of his last 19 games dating back to January 21.

Barrett’s been no slouch in his own right. The second-year guard is just two games removed from a season-high 32 point performance in a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Barrett has put up at least 21 points per game in each of his last four games and six of his last seven games overall.

In their last seven games together, Randle and Barrett have combined for at least 46 points five times:

  • 3/15 @ BRK: Randle 33, Barrett 23 (56 points)
  • 3/13 @ OKC: Randle 26, Barrett 32 (58 points)
  • 3/11 @ MIL: Randle 7, Barrett 22 (29 points)
  • 3/4 v. DET: Randle 27, Barrett 21 (48 points)
  • 3/2 @ SAS: Randle 14, Barrett 15 (29 points)
  • 2/28 @ DET: Randle 25, Barrett 21 (46 points)
  • 2/27 v. IND: Randle 28, Barrett 24 (52 points)

If you believe this duo is capable of crossing the 49.5 point threshold -as they have in back-to-back games- FOX Bet is offering those odds at a juicy +333.

Each Team Over 100.5 Points (-238, FOX Bet)

This bet doesn’t have an outrageous profit multiplier as can be found with riskier markets, but there’s reason to believe that each team will score at least a tick above 100.5 points based on recent trends.

Philadelphia has scored at least 101 points in 28 straight games. Prior to Sunday’s contest, Philadelphia had allowed at least 101 point in five consecutive contests. They’ve allowed at least 101 points in 17 of their last 19 games.

The Knicks have racked up at least 101 points in four consecutive games and nine of their last ten games. Defensively, New York has allowed at least 101 points in four of their last five games.

Although the Knicks failed to reach the 101-point threshold in the teams’ first matchup on December 26, it’s worth noting that Philadelphia had franchise center Joel Embiid available in that one, which won’t be the case on Tuesday night.

Sixers vs. Knicks Prediction

Pick: The Sixers should have every opportunity to prove they’re the more dominant team in this matchup, especially while playing at home. Take the Sixers to Win and Over 218 Points.

Also consider the Julius Randle and RJ Barrett to Score Over 44.5 Points market.
