The Sixers spent three weeks without MVP candidate Joel Embiid as he recovered from a bone bruise in his knee, going 7-3 over that stretch. Embiid returned in a big way against the Timberwolves, racking up 24 points in 29 minutes of action in a 122-113 victory. Unfortunately for the Sixers, Embiid did not play in Sunday’s contest with the Memphis Grizzlies, who laid the proverbial smackdown on Philadelphia at Wells Fargo Center 116-100. Tobias Harris (21) and Shake Milton (14) were the lone Sixers to put up double-digit points in an overall disappointing effort.

Boston is 5-5 in their last 10 games, including a 116-86 blowout of the Charlotte Hornets and a 118-102 win over the Houston Rockets, both of which came at TD Garden. In their 30-point rout of the Hornets, the Celtics saw six players drop double-digit point totals with Jayson Tatum leading the way with 22 points. In addition to Tatum, Jaylen Brown (17), Evan Fournier (17), Robert Williams (16), Marcus Smart (12), and Kemba Walker (12) all crossed the 10-point threshold.

Unfortunately for Boston, they’ll be without trade deadline acquisition Evan Fournier, who is out due to health and safety protocols. Tristan Thompson will also miss this one as he’s in reconditioning protocol.

Will Boston earn their first win of the season against the Sixers or will Philadelphia make it 3-0 against the team from Beantown?

Sixers Win and Over 222 Points (+215, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Early MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid made his presence felt in his first game back from a bone bruise that cost him three weeks of his season, scoring 24 points in just 29 minutes of play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. The same could not be said on Sunday, as Embiid missed his team’s matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies. After his team was shellacked 116-100 at home, look for Embiid to assert his dominance against a Boston Celtics squad that has been unable to contain him through two contests this season. Embiid’s 40 points per game against the Celtics is an eye-popping trend, which stands to continue as Tristan Thompson will be unavailable for Boston.

When it comes to 221.5 total points, the sheer offensive force that is Joel Embiid elevates Philadelphia’s scoring ceiling. His potential minutes restriction, however, could allow Boston wings Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown to slash to the rim while he’s out of the game, while Kemba Walker’s perimeter scoring prowess cannot be overlooked. The teams combined for 226 points in their first matchup and 232 in their second meeting this season. Expect that scoring trend to continue in a Sixers road win with the over 221.5 market hitting.

Sixes Win and Ben Simmons to Record a Double Double (+450, FOX Bet)

This one might look a bit tenuous on the surface, as Sixers point guard Ben Simmons has struggled with his consistency as of late. He’s coming off a disappointing performance against the Grizzlies, scoring 7 points to go with 7 rebounds and 4 assists in a game Philadelphia needed him to step up. The +450 odds are too juicy to ignore, however, especially when looking at his performances against Boston earlier this season. In the teams’ first meeting this season, Simmons put up 11 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists. Two days latter, he dropped 15 points and dished out 11 assists in a double double effort. If you’re planning on playing the Sixers moneyline anyway, you can get a large multiplier if Simmons repeats the feat against the Celtics at TD Garden on Tuesday night.

Joel Embiid to Score 30+ Points (+175, BetMGM)

Joel Embiid has been an absolute monster this season against his former nemesis the Boston Celtics. Boston has had no answers for the MVP candidate this season and will be without one of their best interior threats to defend him as Tristan Thompson has been ruled out of Tuesday night’s contest. Embiid dropped 42 points on the Celtics on 12-19 shooting from the field in the teams’ first matchup while pulling down 10 boards. He followed that up two days later with a 38-point, 11-rebound performance in 30:13 of game action, shooting 11-15 from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc. In his first game back after missing three weeks, he put up 24 points in just under 29 minutes against the Grizzlies while shooting 6-14 from the field and 0-4 from deep. Since he struggled from the field, he cozied himself up to the free throw line, where he went 12-17 (70.6%), all while pulling down 8 rebound and dishing out 2 assists.

Getting Embiid to score 30+ points at +175 odds isn’t going to pay out a ridiculous multiplier, but we expect him to get to the line 12+ times while shooting better overall from the field.

Sixers vs. Celtics Prediction

Pick: After getting lambasted by the Grizzlies on Sunday, look for Philadelphia to come out with a vengeance, led by their franchise center Joel Embiid. Take the Sixers to Win and Over 221.5 Points. Also, get in on Embiid to score 30+ points.
