Today is one of the greatest days on the sports talk radio calendar. And by greatest, I mean worst. Absolute worst.

On this Thursday, hosts at each station will break down the Eagles’ schedule, going GAME BY GAME through the slate and delivering win/loss predictions. They’re going to do this even though we’re four months from September and have no clue what the Birds are going to look like this year.

That said, here’s how we see it:

  • at Falcons – WIN
  • vs. 49ers – WIN
  • at Cowboys (Monday Night Football) – WIN
  • vs. Chiefs – LOSS
  • at Panthers – WIN
  • vs Bucs (Thursday Night Football) – WIN
  • at Raiders – WIN
  • at Lions – WIN
  • vs Chargers – WIN
  • at Broncos – WIN
  • vs Saints – WIN
  • at Giants – blowout WIN
  • at Jets – feels like loss
  • vs Warshington – WIN
  • vs Giants – WIN
  • at Warshington – WIN
  • vs Cowboys – WIN

That’s how it’s gonna play out. Fifteen wins, two losses. NFC East champs baby!

But on a more serious note, the biggest takeaways are:

  1. The front-end schedule is incredibly difficult. Chiefs/Bucs at home, Dallas on the road. Woof.
  2. The back-end schedule is doable. Three of four at home to close the year, coming off the bye week, all against divisional opponents.
  3. After flying back from Denver, they will not have to take a plane trip for the rest of the year.
  4. As of right now, 11 games are scheduled for 1 p.m. No Sunday primetime games. The Bucs game is Thursday Night Football. Generally, you get better next-day analysis after the 1 p.m. games, because there’s more time to go through quotes and video clips and things like that, before deadline hits.
  5. Crappy bye week. Needed that to be sooner.
  6. On the road, they will not face a team that had a winning record last year.
  7. NFL strength of schedule admittedly does not mean much, since teams can improve significantly year-to-year, but right now, based on 2020 records, the data people are telling us the Birds have the NFL’s easiest schedule.

That’s about it. I like the schedule. Let’s throw these guys into the fire right away and see what they have. Maybe they scrape a few wins and put themselves in a position where they’re playing for something meaningful come December. Let’s just see a competitive team that shows some flashes and gives us hope for 2022. That’s the best-case scenario. Seasons are sometimes more enjoyable when you go into them with little in the way of expectation.
