Here’s a bit of Union news we can try to extrapolate:

If you’re not aware, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is lifting the state’s commonwealth’s COVID mitigation order on May 31st. The mask mandate is still going to be in effect until we meet a certain vaccination threshold, but everything else is going to be pulled back.

The Union’s stadium is in Delco, but with Citizens Bank Park, Wells Fargo Center, and Lincoln Financial Field operating in Philly proper, those three arenas have been subjected to more stringent restrictions put in place by the city government. Currently, CBP is operating at 25% capacity and the Wells Fargo Center at 20%, which equates to about 9,000 and 4,000 fans in reach venue. Both numbers are below the current 50% and 25% numbers Pennsylvania is allowing for outdoor and indoor events, respectively.

That said, it’s hard to imagine Philadelphia going full capacity when May 31st comes around. The city has been several weeks behind the state in matching capacity numbers, so it could be something like mid-June or early July at best guess. One thing worth nothing is that June 23rd is the Union’s first home game after May 31st, so if that date seems somewhat arbitrary, it’s because it’s a funky quirk made possible by an international soccer break at the beginning of the month. The Union likely would have gone full capacity on June 1st or June 2nd if they had a game that day.

Fingers crossed, though. If the Union are moving ahead with full capacity in Delco, Philly won’t be too far behind… we think.
