Clippers vs. Suns Game 2 Player Props (June 22, 2021)

The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers are teams that looked like they would be on an eventual collision course when the Western Conference playoffs began. The way the teams have gotten to the conference finals, however, was anything but predictable. Phoenix’s sweep of the Denver Nuggets was a staggering blow to the MVP season of Nikola Jokić, while the Clippers’ upset of the top seeded Utah Jazz in six games was impressive in its own right.

Although they lost Game 1, the Los Angeles Clippers had to feel encouraged by the play of superstar Paul George, who racked up 34 points to go with 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. Reggie Jackson (24) and DeMarcus Cousins (11) were the only other players to crack double figures for the Clippers. LA were once again without superstar Kawhi Leonard, who missed Game 1 with a right knee sprain. Unfortunately for LA, Leonard has been ruled out for Tuesday’s Game 2.

The Suns were excellent in Game 1 despite the absence of star point guard Chris Paul, who was placed in the league’s Health & Safety Protocols ahead of the Western Conference Finals. Devin Booker was outstanding for Phoenix, scoring 40 points on 15-29 shooting, including 3-7 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out 11 assists in the Suns’ 6-point victory. Every Suns starter hit double figures in scoring, as did bench forward Cameron Johnson.

Will the Suns take a commanding 2-0 lead in this series or will the Clippers level things at a game apiece?

Devin Booker & Paul George to Each Score 30+ Points (+200, FOX Bet)

Two-player parlay bets can be built on tenuous ground, but not when it involves the standout stars from the teams involved in the Western Conference Finals. Each superstar will miss their respective co-star for the second consecutive game, which will mean yet another opportunity for Devin Booker and Paul George to stand out for their teams.

Devin Booker has been one of the best shooting guards in the NBA in recent years, but he’s been dogged by the line of “good stats, bad team guy”. However, the addition of Chris Paul elevated Phoenix to the Top-2 of the West for much of  the regular season. Booker stepped up in a big way in Phoenix’s closeout of the Denver Nuggets, dropping 34 points, followed by a 40-point explosion in Game 1 of this series. Game 1 marked the sixth time in eleven postseason games that Booker registered at least 30 points.

Kawhi Leonard’s absence was felt somewhat in Game 1, but  Paul George has exorcised some of his prior postseason demons through this most recent playoff run. Since Game 3 of the Clippers’ semifinals series with the Jazz, George has put up at least 30 points in four of five games. It’s also worth noting that in three regular season meetings against the Suns, PG dropped 39, 33, and 25 points.

It stands to reason Booker and George will have  plenty of opportunities to score and will put up 30+ points each. At +200 odds, this market is worth getting in on.

Deandre Ayton to Record 10+ Rebounds (-136, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Suns center Deandre Ayton should be able to continue taking advantage of the Clippers’ lack of meaningful interior size in this series. Sure, DeMarcus Cousins and Ivaca Zubac are available centers, but each player has plenty of drawbacks that make playing either for long stretches a losing formula.

Ayton pulled down 9 rebounds in Game 1, which follows a 7-rebound performance in Phoenix’s series finale against the Nuggets. That shouldn’t be cause for concern, however, as Ayton has pulled down double-digit rebounds in 7 of 11 playoff games, including three of his last five contests.

In the first regular season matchup between these teams, Ayton grabbed 8 rebounds in 29:30 of game action. He went on to snag 10 rebounds in 32:13 in the second contest, and  11 rebounds in just 27:31 in their third game.

Ayton recording 10+ rebounds has enough recent and matchup-based success to be worth a look.

Mikal Bridges to Record Over 16.5 Combined Points and Rebounds (-110,  BetMGM)

Third-year forward Mikal Bridges is coming off the best regular season of his career, averaging career-highs in points (13.5), rebounds (4.3), and assists (2.1) per game.  Bridges has been a reliable postseason contributor, scoring at least 10 points in 9 of 11 games, including each of the last eight games.

Bridges also brings down a solid amount of rebounds per game, grabbing at least five rebounds in four of his last seven games. As for Bridges’ ability to record over 16.5 combined points and rebounds, keep in mind he’s done so in three of his last five games.

Given his averages of 14 points and 3.2 rebounds per game over his last five contests, as well as the absence of Chris Paul, there’s a high likelihood Bridges will have a solid game in support of Devin Booker.
