Saw this story the other day but the sports aspect of it hadn’t been detailed yet.

The shooting at Pat’s on Thursday morning stemmed from a spat between an Eagles fan and a Giants fan.

From the NBC 10 writeup:

An argument between an Eagles fan and a Giants fan in line for a late night cheesesteak ended in one man shooting the other to death at iconic Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia.

Witnesses told Philadelphia police that an Eagles fan and Giants fan began fighting just before 1 a.m. Thursday outside the cheesesteak shop at 9th and Wharton streets (right off Passyunk Avenue), Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. There were six or seven people waiting in line for food at the time.

The one man — who has red hair and was wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jersey — then shot the other at least once on the sidewalk area near where people can sit at picnic tables before hopping into a van driven by a woman and driving off, Small said.

They tracked down the shooter near Independence Hall, where he turned himself in, but this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long time. A football argument leads to a deadly shooting? What is wrong with people?

The Inquirer had a quote from GM Tom Francano:

“They were arguing and it turned into a fight,” Francano said. “One guy grabbed the other guy and got him in a grip, and the other guy pulled out a gun and shot him in the torso. It was one shot. The cops came right away.”

Believe it or not, there was another incident at Pat’s late last year, with some guy firing a bunch of shots but not hitting anybody. And Steve Keeley at FOX 29 noted that Geno’s got the rest of the getaway on their security system and were able to work together with Pat’s and Philly police to track the suspects.

Here’s the kicker though, from the Inky:

At least 314 people have been slain in Philadelphia this year, according to police statistics — a 34% increase compared with the same date last year, and more than were killed in all of 2016. More than 1,200 people have been killed or wounded in shootings citywide this year.

Ridiculous.
