Conventional wisdom suggests the Sixers are going to look to trade Ben Simmons this offseason.

Now, that conventional wisdom is backed by a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania that the team is looking to move on from the three-time NBA All-Star.

Charania reports the Sixers have opened up talks with teams about a potential Simmons trade. Unsurprisingly, those talks have included a high price tag. Charania also notes that interest in the 25-year-old around the league is strong.

Easy comparison to make, I guess, but this whole thing has serious Carson Wentz vibes to it.

A lost Simmons passing on an open layup at a key moment in an elimination game, a lost Wentz standing benched on the sideline during the second half of a miserable performance at Lambeau Field.

Two moments clearly signaling previously unthinkable endings for a pair of the city’s once brightest stars.

I know some people out there think the Sixers would be wise to wait or altogether pass on a potential Simmons trade. Those people will suggest Simmons’ value has never been lower. Maybe after the crazy embarrassment of his postseason performance he will finally let it rip. That kind of stuff.

I doubt it, but maybe. Either way, it feels like this situation has an inevitable outcome.
