Nick Sirianni can be a little eccentric at times, to complement his excitability. It’s certainly different, but that’s okay, because he’s our guy and we’re pulling for him. We want him to find success at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles.

We’ve learned that Sirianni is a guy who likes to teach through video in team meetings, and recently he showed his squad a clip of Takeru Kobayashi vs. Joey Chestnut in order to hammer home a point about detail and fundamentals:

Sirianni, in part, if you prefer to read out the words:

The video that [LB] JaCoby [Stevens] was talking about was [Takeru] Kobayashi and I’ll tell you about that. Our fifth core value is fundamentals, and Kobayashi, there’s this video of Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut competing and they go, ‘Why is Kobayashi so good at eating hot dogs?’ The details and fundamentals he puts into it — he has to have the right temperature of water to dunk the thing. He has to break the hot dog perfectly in half.

So my point on that is, yeah, we are all seeing it and watching it, and it’s like, ‘What’s the point of that?’ My point is, if you want to be the best in the world at what you do, right, on the football field, it comes down to the little things and that right there was a fundamental talk.”

Now listen, Sirianni is right. When it comes to eating, fundamentals are key, and nobody does it better than Joey Chestnut or Kobayashi. These are two GOATs of hot dog eating. You wanna emulate these guys. You wanna be like Sonya Thomas, the Black Widow. Or Molly Schuyler. These men and women were champions.

This reminds of that video of Kobayashi taking on a giant bear in a hot dog eating contest. It was ridiculous. They named the bear “The Alaskan Cruncher” and hung an American flag over it.
