HUGE 76ers news as the Philadelphia Inquirer today reported that Kate Scott has been named as the permanent 76ers play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Scott will be the first full-time female sports broadcaster in Philadelphia to permanently call games for one of the major sports franchises. She replaces longtime Sixers announcer Marc Zumoff, who announced his retirement from broadcasting this summer.

She is now only the second full-time female play-by-play announcer for an NBA team.

Scott boasts an impressive resume and holds a number of firsts for women broadcasts. She was the first woman to call men’s basketball in the Olympics, the first to call a Golden State Warriors game and the first to call an NFL game on the radio. She was also the first woman to call announced football for the Pac-12 Networks, Copa América and Gold Cup soccer matches for Fox Sports and be the play-by-play announcer for the first all-female NHL broadcast, according to her website.

For the last five years she has provided play-by-play services for football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and softball for the Pac-12 television networks.

And most importantly? She sounds pretty good! Take a listen to some of her calls.

I dig it! Good energy, good TIMBER in her voice. She’ll need to work on her catchphrase game if she truly wants to fill Zumoff’s shoes, but I think she’ll do just fine in Philadelphia.

Welcome to the 76ers, Kate. Just a piece of advice, I wouldn’t spend too much time researching Ben Simmons career to enrich your broadcast of the 76ers game. Just a good time saver.
