The Flyers finally had one of those games where they won handily. Where the result was never in doubt. Where there wasn’t an epic comeback required to get two points. It was nice, but they need to get past it quickly.
Because here come the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins have had the slowest moving schedule to start the season so far. The NHL has been in action for eight days, and Boston has played just one game – a 3-1 win over Dallas last Saturday. But, the thing about Boston is, while their star players are certainly getting longer in the tooth, they have an ability to re-tool like so few teams can.

The Bruins are, once again, a legit Stanley Cup contender this year. And that’s with a rookie goalie, a new look third line and ever-changing depth. They’re a well-coached team and one that could give the Flyers fits, especially since the Flyers rely so heavily on puck possession to be successful – the Bruins are a big, strong, puck possession team themselves.

Flyers coach Alain Vigneault likes to try to matchup Sean Couturier against the Bruins super line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. With the Flyers top line being relied on for more 200-foot hockey than against Vancouver or Seattle, The Flyers are going to rely on depth provide offense. Boston will try to get their new-look third line of Nick Foligno, Jacob DeBrusk and Erik Haula against the Flyers second line, so the opportunity to score for the Flyers will be on their third line, with JVR, Scott Laughton and Oskar Lindblom.
We’re going with JVR instead of either Laughton or Lindblom because he is featured on the top power play unit as well, and we think it’s time for him to notch his first goal of the season.

The Bruins moved on from longtime goalie Tuukka Rask and handed the keys to the kingdom to rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman. That’s a big move for a top team, so Boston must have a lot of confidence in him. Still, the Flyers have liked their 5-on-5 play and their power play so far this season, and they feel they can score some goals.
Combine that with Boston getting to face Jones and not Carter Hart, and there’s a good bet this one has a bit of a Wild West shootout flavor.
The Over alone at -120 odds is a good bet, but tying it to a Bruins victory gets you great odds.

The Flyers are a better team than a season ago, so we don’t think they’ll get stomped by the Bruins, as happed a few times, but, we really don’t like the goalie matchup here, and as such think this has high-scoring hockey written all over it. We’re half-tempted to make the total goals reach 10, but that really sticking our neck out. Instead, we’ll have it be just short.
