Flyers fans are quickly falling in love with Cam Atkinson. The speedy winger was acquired via a trade, with Philadelphia sending the Columbus Blue Jackets beloved winger Jake Voracek in return. All Atkinson has done is score six goals and add an assist in the Flyers first five games. Atkinson is the first Flyer since Mike Richards (2009-10) to register six goals in the first five games of the season. Atkinson is also one of just two Flyers with at least one point in each of the first five games.

The other is captain Claude Giroux, who also has four goals and two assists in the Flyers first five games.

But Atkinson and Giroux are not alone in the productivity department for the Flyers. Sean Couturier also has seven points while Joel Farabee and Derick Brassard each have six points.

Meanwhile, the Canucks are also getting offense from all over the lineup as Conor Garland has eight points already and Bo Horvat has scored four goals in the last five games.

Petterson is one of Vancouver’s best offensive weapons, yet he only has one goal so far this season. Look for the Canucks to try and ignite him, especially going against Flyers backup goalie Martin Jones. Look for Petterson to have good game overall and find the back of the net in this one.

Giroux is off to one of his best start in years, He’s feeling healthy, he’s got jump in his skates and it’s translating to points on the scoresheet, especially goals. Why? Because Giroux is firing pucks at the net with a little more regularity. In fact, he had eight shots (including one that went in) against Vancouver two weeks ago, which tells you the Canucks struggled to defend against him and his line of Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny (who had four shots himself). This bet seems too easy. Take it and run.

Martin Jones is in net for the Flyers, and although he made 37 saves in his first game for Philadelphia, he did let in three. Meanwhile, the Flyers are averaging 4.6 goals per game. Jones is also playing in his hometown against family and friends, which is sometimes nerve-wracking for a player. Although Jones is 9-3-1 lifetime against the Canucks with a 2.00 GAA and a .935 save percentage, which is his third-best amongst all NHL teams, this is a different scenario for Jones. He’s not the everydauy guy like he was in San Jose and these Canucks are a lot better than some of the teams Jones has face din the past. This one definitely makes it past six.

Flyers vs. Canucks Prediction

It’s going to be tough for the Flyers to have the same energy they spent in Edmonton in their big win last night. Meanwhile, the Canucks want to give the home crowd something to cheer about for the first time in two years and will likely have more jump than the Flyers. Combine that with a game against a backup goalie, and this one looks to be a tough road to hoe for the Flyers.

Pick: We believe the Canucks prevail, 5-3
