Seven-time Pro Bowler Michael Strahan is headed to space. For real.

From the Daily Mail:

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin announced its new batch of space tourists on Tuesday that includes two honorary guests and four paying customers.

Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley — the eldest daughter of Alan Shepard, the first American to fly to space — have been gifted their seats on the New Shepard rocket set to launch on December 9.

The other four, who have paid a high price for the experience, include space industry executive and philanthropist Dylan Taylor, investor Evan Dick, Bess Ventures founder Lane Bess and Cameron Bess, who will become the first parent-child duo to fly in space.

Talk about a gift. This Cameron Bess dude? His mom is flying him into space, with Michael Strahan along for the ride.

This is conflicting for me. If people work hard and earn their money and take risks and create jobs and blah blah, then we typically react favorably. They can do whatever they want to do. But the other part of me wonders why we have billionaires dicking around on these “space tourism” joyrides when the rest of us are paying $4 for gas or trying to get a goddamn Playstation 5. It’s an optics thing, isn’t it? We can send these doofuses into the exosphere but can’t figure out traffic at the sports complex.

Anyway, Strahan has had such a funky path, right? Guy comes out of a SWAC school, then goes on to become a sack master. Then he joins Good Morning America, which has nothing to do with sports. Now he’s headed to space.

What a world.
