On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers (12-12-5) will try to extend their point streak to six games when they start a Western Conference road trip by making their first visit to Climate Pledge Arena to take on the Seattle Kraken (10-17-3). It is the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Flyers clobbered the Kraken 6-1 back on Oct. 18, in what was just Seattle’s fourth NHL game as a franchise.

Let’s get into our Flyers vs. Kraken betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this December 29, 2021 matchup.

Flyers-Kraken Preview

Let’s get this out of the way right off the top. We’re going to give you a lot of information about streaks and who’s hot and who isn’t, but the reality is, all of this data should be taken with a grain of salt right now.

Covid-19 is ravaging the NHL and players are being added and removed from the protocol almost by the hour. On top of that, with so many games still being cancelled, there is no rhythm or flow to the season at the moment.

For example, we pointed out that the Flyers are looking to extend their point streak to six games. They are 4-0-1 in their last five. But they haven’t played in 11 days, have had three of their last 12 games postponed because of COVID-19, and now have several players in the protocol, including No. 1 center Sean Couturier, No. 1 goalie Carter Hart, and bottom six forwards Derick Brassard and Scott Laughton, both of whom have provided a spark when moved into top six roles for the Flyers because of their versatility.

The Flyers will get centers Kevin Hayes and Morgan Frost back in the lineup as they were removed from the protocol Tuesday.

Injured defenseman Ryan Ellis, who is pushing to get back in the lineup in early January, is also in the protocol.

With the NHL reinstating taxi squads, the Flyers have added top defensive prospect Cam York and goalie prospect Kirill Ustimenko to the taxi squad to provide depth in case of injury or further COVID-19 related issues while on this four-game, seven-day road trip.

As for Seattle, it has lost six-of-eight (2-4-2) but also hasn’t played in 11 days as the Kraken have had their last four games postponed due to COVID-19.

Like the Flyers, Seattle has a number of players going in and out of the COVID-19 protocol. Two key defensemen – Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn, as well as two key forwards, Ryan Donato and Mason Appleton, all are on the COVID-19 list.

In addition, Seattle has lost forward Brandon Tanev for the season with a knee injury.

Coming out of the protocol are high energy forwards Yanni Gourde and Colin Blackwell and veteran Riley Sheahan as well as defensemen Jamie Oleksiak and Carson Soucy.

The Kraken are a surprise favorite here. We’re not sure if Vegas has had a chance to really look at the rosters, but the Flyers have more healthy talent right now than the Kraken. Maybe the notion that Martin Jones is in goal for the Flyers because of Carter Hart being in the protocol is what the oddsmakers are looking at, but Seattle is depleted more than the Flyers.

The only line that remains intact is their top scoring line of Jared McCann, Jordan Eberle and Jayden Schwartz. McCann and Eberle are tied for the team lead in goals with 12 each and although Schwartz only has six goals, he has the best odds for you to cash in.

And if Schwartz is scoring, you can bet the Kraken have a shot at winning, because he’s usually setting up his partners for goals. So, if you believe in Seattle, this is a nice prop to go a long with it.

Since being put on a line with Claude Giroux and Cam Atkinson, Oskar Lindblom has started to look a little more like the player he was a couple seasons ago, when he was leading the Flyers in goals before being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

It’s been a long road back for Lindblom, but he remains cancer-free and he seems like a far more confident player when playing with more talented linemates than he was when he was buried on the fourth line.

There are great odds here and with the Kraken having a depleted defense, look for this line to buzz for the Flyers and generate a lot of chances.

Yes, it’s been a while since anyone has played, but in the six losses the Kraken have in their last eight games, they’ve yielded 27 goals, or 4.5 per game. Combine that with a depleted defense and there’s a recipe here for the Flyers to be cooking something tasty. As for the Flyers, they have scored 21 goals on their five game point streak, or 4.2 per game. The Flyers also scored six on the Kraken earlier this season, when Seattle was at full health. Couple that with the Flyers being forced to use a backup goalie because of Hart being in the protocol, and you can see Seattle scoring a bit too. Draftkings gives you this over/under at 6, so there is also a push possibility (it’s 6.5 elsewhere). This is a good bet, and one that should come through regardless of who wins.

Flyers vs. Kraken Prediction

It’s hard to predict where either team will be after being off for 11 days, and although the Flyers are missing some key pieces, they still have enough firepower to overcome a makeshift Seattle defense. We expect this to be like a lot of games early in the season – where they tend to be more high scoring than not, because after 11 days off, it’s almost like a reset. We saw it Tuesday where there 33 goals scored in three NHL games. Tonight should be no different.

Prediction: Flyers 6, Kraken 3
