On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Flyers (8-9-4) will try to snap their seven-game losing streak (0-5-2) when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning (14-5-4) at Wells Fargo Center. It is the third and final meeting of the season between the teams. Tampa Bay won the first two, including a 4-3 shootout win in Philadelphia on Nov. 18 and a 4-0 shutout in Tampa on Nov. 23.

Flyers-Lightning Preview
The Flyers have reached their Waterloo. General Manager Chuck Fletcher indicated that this was a very important week for the team. They will play five games in the next seven days, starting with the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions.
The Flyers have been unable to score goals for more than a month with just 27 goals in their last 16 games. It’s been a bone of contention in the locker room as well. Head coach Alain Vigneault, who is on the hot seat because of his team’s struggles, came out and said the team would have to figure out how to win games 1-0 or 2-1 if they don’t figure out their scoring issues.
Making matters worse, aside from an absolutely brutal schedule, the Flyers are missing five starters due to injury: Ryan Ellis (lower body), Derick Brassard (hip), Patrick Brown (thumb), Nate Thompson (shoulder) and Joel Farabee (shoulder).
The Lightning are not without their injury issues either. Nikita Kucherov (lower body) has only played three games and Brayden Point (upper body) is missing his eighth straight contest. But the Lightning are deep and able to fill voids better than most teams.
The Lightning have won two in a row, have points in three straight, are 5-1-1 in their last seven, and are coming off a hard-fought 3-2 victory in Boston on Saturday.
Because they are playing back-to-back games, backup goalie Brian Elliott will get a chance to start for the Lightning tonight against his old teammates.

We expect the Flyers to finally get a power play goal, and if so, it’s likely coming through one of two people, Claude Giroux on the half wall or Yandle at the point. Getting to face Elliott and not Andrew Vasilevskiy may be just the tonic the woeful Flyers offense needs to get jumpstarted. Elliott has a 3.16 goals against average and an .887 save percentage. The Flyers should be able to exploit their old teammate and finally get back to the three-goal plateau, or maybe even higher.
Meanwhile, Carter Hart has cooled after a brilliant start. His numbers are still decent, but that’s all they are, and he has struggled with Tampa in the past. This seems like a good bet to go over.

Why is this game basically even money on the moneyline? One team who can’t score and has lost seven straight against league royalty who has beaten the other team twice already. It’s because the Flyers aren’t as bad as a team as they’ve looked, even with all the injuries, and the Lightning are coming off a tough game yesterday with travel and are starting an aging backup goalie. This should be a chance for the Flyers to have an offensive breakthrough. If not, there’s going to be some heads cracking afterwards.
