The Temple Owls have a new football coach.

They brought in Stan Drayton, who was most recently a Texas assistant:

I like the hire. Experienced guy from a Power Five school. Drayton was the associate head coach and handled running backs while also holding the “run game coordinator” title down in Austin. The Longhorns have been a perennial disappointment, but Drayton is seen as a great recruiter and does have some ties to this region.

Back in 1995, he did a season as Penn’s running backs coach. Then he held the same role for a few years at Villanova, and is credited with bringing Brian Westbrook to the Main Line.

Said B West about that on Twitter:

“I can’t say enough Great things about Stan Drayton! He saw thru my injuries and brought me to Villanova, he helped turn me become the player and more importantly the man that I became!! I can’t wait to see him transform this program!!”

And here’s a look at Drayton’s full resume, clipped from WIKIPEDIA:

No offensive/defensive coordinator experience, but big programs in big conferences. Some NFL experience, too. He seems like a guy who has been around the block and should know exactly what he’s doing. Let’s hope he’s committed for a few years, and then if he has success, he can make the same jump that Al Golden, Matt Rhule, Steve Addazio, and Geoff Collins did. As long as he doesn’t pull a Manny Diaz, we’re good.
