Congrats to Jason Kelce and Darius Slay on making the Pro Bowl.

Slay is actually the first Eagles CB since Asante Samuel to earn this honor. He’s having quite the year on social media, and had this to say:

To be fair, Slay didn’t exactly light the world on fire to start the season, with Jonathan Gannon sitting in that two-deep shell, so Glen’s take wasn’t outrageous. But Slay flipped a switch quickly and is playing some of his best football ever. He deserves every bit of that Pro Bowl berth, which is his fourth. He went in 2017, 2018, and 2019 with Detroit.

And Jason Kelce – what more is there to say? Guy is a legendary Eagle and deserves every bit of his 5th Pro Bowl. Hopefully he plays football until his legs fall off (as long as it’s not Jason Peters 2.0).

Here are some quick thoughts on the snubs:

Javon Hargrave

He was playing at an All-Pro level to begin the season, then came back down to Earth. Still, he has eight sacks, 17 QB hits, and eight tackles for loss, which are all career highs through 14 games. He would have had to keep playing like a madman in order to beat out Aaron Donald, Jonathan Allen, and Kenny Clark. Lot of good NFC talent on the interior defensive line, but I personally don’t  think Clark is having a better year than Hargrave. Seems like a bit of a head scratcher there, if we’re being honest:

Lane Johnson

He missed time due to the mental health thing, but he’s allowed only one sack and zero quarterback hits this year, and that’s with different guys playing next to him at right guard. The NFC selections for offensive tackle ended up being Trent Williams, Tristan Wirfs, and Tyron Smith.

Jake Elliott

Elliott is having a career year, but Matt Gay has better numbers.

However, Gay kicks in a dome and has only missed one fewer field goal. He’s missed an extra point, while Elliott is perfect. It seems like the Rams being a better team helped here, and you add in the fact that he’s tried more field goals and extra points overall. More volume, more exposure, etc.
