I have to apologize to Pitt football fans.

A week or so ago, I said 2021 was the first good Pitt football season since the leather helmet era. I totally forgot about the 2009 team, which won 10 games and defeated traditional power North Carolina in the Meineke Car Car Bowl. What a year for Dave Wann-stache and the Yinzers!

Joke’s aside, you guys were pretty damn good this year, and I’ll give Kenny Pickett props. He lit up the ACC, and his draft stock is rising more quickly than a PPA agent approaching an expired meter. Turns out he’s one of us, an Eagle fan:

Donovan McNabb, aka the greatest quarterback in Eagles history.

As you know, Howie Rosemen went out to the ‘Burgh a few weeks ago for the Pitt/UNC game. Kenny Pickett vs. Sam Howell. Pickett threw for nearly 350 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime win. He fits the mold of what the Eagles like in a quarterback, i.e. one of those bigger white dudes who can sling it. Think Nick Foles and Carson Wentz, you know? It’s not an amazing QB class this year, but we know the draft isn’t an exact science, so maybe Pickett turns out to be a great pro. You never know.

For what it’s worth, the Eagles have drafted some Pitt guys over the years. Avonte Maddox. Dion Lewis. Shady McCoy. Mike McGlynn. And Pitt players tend to do pretty well in the NFL. Just look at guys like Revis and Aaron Donald and Tyler Boyd and James Conner. Jordan Whitehead and Brian O’Neill, a Salesianum guy. I hate to say it, but the Yinzers put some solid dudes in the NFL.

Hail to Pitt! #H2P
