On Monday afternoon, the Sixers will be in Washington, D.C., to take on the Wizards in a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday matinee. The Sixers have won two in a row and nine out of their last ten to keep pace with the Bucks and the Cavaliers in the second tier of Eastern Conference playoff teams. With Kevin Durant’s injury, the Sixers are almost certainly targeting hosting a first round playoff series. The Wizards lost to the Portland Trail Blazers at home on Saturday night and are a game over .500.

Let’s get into our Sixers vs. Wizards betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this January 17, 2022 matchup.

Sixers vs. Wizards Betting Pick (January 17, 2022)

The Sixers have picked an outstanding time to get scorching hot, because the remainder of the Philadelphia sports landscape is sadness as far as the eye can see.

The Eagles’ playoff run predictably ended in Tampa Bay yesterday. There was no shame in losing to the defending Super Bowl champions on the road, especially when very few fans thought the Eagles would even make the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, quarterback Jalen Hurts was inaccurate on many of the throws he did make and failed to see some open chances to make other throws. So the Eagles go into this offseason with a here-we-go-again quarterback question. Even if you concede that Hurts will be the starter in 2022, it’s hard to feel great about it. Regardless, the next thing Eagles fans have to look forward to is the NFL Draft, which doesn’t start until April 28. There’s a long, cold winter to push through until then.

Speaking of long, cold winters, the Flyers are still playing, but they are so far out of the playoff picture that watching their games now is the classic “I mean, I can’t find anything else to do” choice. The Flyers aren’t just bad, they’re boring. And it’s not like they’re developing young talent — they’re losing with an old, expensive core. It’s gross.

Of course, at least the Flyers are playing (if you want to call it that). As things stand, the Phillies are locked out. There won’t be a spring training. There won’t be an Opening Day, at least not in early April. Leave it to the Phillies to finally lock up a Most Valuable Player and a legitimate Cy Young candidate and end up quite possibly not playing the following season.

So the Sixers are where it’s at. Hey, they’ve never let us down before, right?

The Sixers have played four straight games where one of the teams hasn’t scored 100 points, and in three of those games, it was the Sixers’ opponent who didn’t get there. Bradley Beal is questionable for this game, and if he either doesn’t play or is not quite 100%, the Wizards will struggle to hit 100.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Tobias Harris Over 18.5 Points (-125, Caesars Sportsbook)

Harris is much-maligned, but at least recently he is playing much closer to the level of his contract than he did earlier in the season. Harris has scored at least 17 points in five of his last six games and is coming off an efficient 22-point performance against the Miami Heat on Saturday, shooting 9-13 from the field and hitting all three of his three-point shots. Washington is a below average defensive team (20th in the league) and Harris will have a green light in this game.

Embiid is averaging 10.6 rebounds per game and pulled down 25 misses over the past two games. What really informs this prop, though, is the lack of a competent center on the Wizards’ roster. It’s true that you don’t need a great or even very good center to win in the NBA any more, but that doesn’t mean you can survive with the likes of Daniel Gafford and Montrezl Harrell, either.

Tyrese Maxey at Least 2 Three-Point Field Goals (+115, FOX Bet)

Maxey’s game has rounded out beautifully this season. Really, Maxey’s development is the only silver lining of the Ben Simmons absence. One of the elements of Maxey’s game that is coming along nicely is his three-point shooting. Maxey didn’t seem to have a lot of confidence in his long-distance shooting last season. That has changed. Maxey is attempting 3.5 triples per game and hitting 40% of them. In this game, against a Wizards group that can at best be called indifferent defensively, Maxey will get his looks from the arc.

If the Sixers are what they seemed to be in beating the Celtics and Heat convincingly in a home/road back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, this game against the Wizards shouldn’t be a problem. The schedule has really laid out for the Sixers to take a run at a top three seed in the conference, with the next three games after this one coming against the awful Orlando Magic, the underachieving Los Angeles Clippers and the undermanned San Antonio Spurs. The Sixers really shouldn’t get taken to the wire by this Wizards team, especially if Beal either doesn’t play or is limited.
