From Eric Conklin at The Press of Atlantic City:

A former high school teacher and South Jersey sports journalist accused of making suggestive comments and inappropriately touching students at Atlantic County Institute of Technology was released on Monday.

Peter Thompson, 51, of Galloway Township, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sexual contact and official misconduct. Thompson, who had been in the jail since his Oct. 18 arrest, was released following a first appearance in front of Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Nancy J. Ridgway on Monday. He is scheduled to return to Superior Court for a second hearing Nov. 30.

Thompson, probably best known for his local television career, was charged after an investigation found photographs of several ACIT students on his phone and collected statements from teenaged victims alleging suggestive comments and inappropriate touching, according to an affidavit.

Thompson was most recently contributing to 97.3 ESPN in South Jersey. Not a full-time host or Townsquare Media employee, however. You also may have seen him doing the sports on Channel 40 back in the day. He also had a sports stint with SNJ Today.

The allegations detailed in the Press of AC story are pretty disturbing. As far as the legal process goes, the Superior Court Judge released Thompson on the condition that he “check in with pre-trial services weekly,” according to Conklin. He’s been issued a restraining order as well, ahead of that November hearing.
