Mayor Kenney Thanks All of You for Behaving
Sean Collins Walsh from the Inquirer was at a Monday press conference with Mayor Jim Kenney:
The mayor applauded Phillies fans for their relatively good behavior during celebrations across the city Sunday night.
“I really want to thank the residents and the fans in the city for their behavior last night,” he said. “It was joyous. It was fun. City Hall was hopping. Frankford and Cottman was hopping. We had no problems, no issues, no arrests, maybe two arrests.”
Nice job everybody.
Here’s the real question, however – was Kenney even in Philadelphia on Sunday? He’s had one foot out the door for many months now. He’s probably gonna get in a van and drive across the country after his term finishes. Mid-life crisis road trip, perhaps.
Actually, now that I think about it, Philly sport is probably the only thing he truly gives a shit about these days. This is the same guy who said over the summer that he’s “waiting for something bad to happen all the time,” but with the Phils and Eagles playing well, the sports teams are throwing him a lifeline. Kenney and Krasner and Outlaw and McNesby should head to South Philly immediately and bend the knee to the local baseball and football teams while referring to Howie Roseman and Dave Dombrowski as “Your Grace.”
This is a recurring pattern now. Whenever the Phils/Eagles/etc win, there are no significant issues. We can split hairs about what defines “significant,” but we have to appreciate the small victories here. Baby steps. Yeah, Wawa is closing stores because of unchecked crime, but if we’re gonna turn this thing around, you gotta start somewhere. People climbed some poles on Sunday night, but no big deal. We took a quick break from car-jack-a-palooza 2022 to come together and celebrate THE FIGHTINS. SAID. SAID.
