The Phillies offensive woes have resurfaced in Thursday's loss against the Pirates in a 3-2 loss at PNC Park.  It's their 4th loss in their last 6 games and the 2nd loss out of 3 games against the Pirates so far this year.

Many expected the Phils to have an easy game against Daniel McCutchen's double digit ERA, but it turned out to be anything but that.  The offense struggled to gain much ground against the Pirates' former top prospect and once again the replacements drove the Phillies only 2 runs.  One of those runs was a solo shot deep to center field by the suddenly slugging Wilson Valdez.  The surprise power of the team launched it well over the wall at the deepest part of the part right past the 410 sign.

The Pirates got off to scoring early and stayed ahead for the rest of the game.  Cole Hamels sat down the first 4 batters he faced, but two early inning walks lead runs scoring from base hits that followed.  Despite getting a runner in scoring position in the both the 8th and
9th, the Phillies couldn't get the job done.  Cole pitched well enough to win, but the run support wasn't there.  He allowed five hits, three runs and struck out eight in seven
innings.

The Phillies have been suffering from a plethora of interesting troubles
as of late.  Chase Utley will be out for 8 weeks after having surgery
on his right thumb and Placido Polanco is said to be out for 3-4 weeks.
Chooch is still out, Ryan Madson is getting some work in and J.A. Happ has been making starts for the IronPigs.

Brian Schneider was pulled from Thursday's game due to a hyper-extended thumb when a foul hit him.  There has been no word yet as to the seriousness of that injury.

Jimmy Rollins appears to be doing well, but fans can't help but hold their breath when he has to run at least 90 feet.

Charlie Manuel served his one game suspension in Thursday's game and will be back with the Phillies for Friday's game.  Charlie has a lot cut out for him with his big pieces missing and his offense showing signs of struggle.  Hopefully the bats can start to wake up when it counts and ease the worries of their beloved fans
