The Yankees are soooo butt-hurt over the Cliff Lee thing.
Last week, Lee was on the WIP Morning Show and told Angelo Cataldi that one of the reasons he didn’t choose the Yankees was because they were “getting older.”
Never mind the fact the Phillies are the oldest team in baseball.
It took Yankees GM Brian Cashman a few days to respond: [NY Post]
“Some of our core guys that we have relied on have gotten up there, but we have a group of young players that we’re excited about.
All we care about is being called champions. You can say anything else you want about us. When you call us old, that’s fine.
It doesn’t really matter. It was a marriage that was not meant to be. That’s life.”
Ah yes, invoking marriage when talking about baseball acquisitions- step 3 in the butt-hurt process.
Neither the comments from Lee nor Cashman are damning, but, if anything, the fire has been stoked for the next time Lee pitches in Yankee Stadium… whenever that is.
Listen to Lee’s comments after the jump.

We want to go ” all the way” with you too, Cliff <3 Hope your wishes come true!
I wonder if Cashman chose the word marriage to insinuate that Clifton’s decision was made or heavily influenced by his wife?
Maybe this has been addressed in a previous thread, but what happened to the icons that preceded each comment? Is it just me that isn’t seeing them in my browser? Without them it’s much harder to visually separate each comment.
And fuck Brian Cashman.
Are we really the oldest team in baseball? Fuck. Seems like just a few years ago we were the group of young up-starts.
