Late Afternoon Roundup

We'll do this in order of severity, I suppose:

Armon Gilliam is dead.

– Placido Polanco will see a spinal doctor when he returns to Philly. Polly has been bothered by a sore back and is hitting .216 since May 1st. The beat writers are convinced this is nothing more than wear and tear, but numbers don't lie and spinal doctors aren't good.

Ryan Lawrence has some quotes.

– Shane Victorino made the media rounds today, soliciting votes for the All-Star game. He told reporters his thumb feels better. The Phillies just announced that he is leading All-Star voting with less than 24 hours to go. It helps to play in a major media market. Vote here.

– One of Vince Young's publicists said Young and DeSean Jackson developed some "good timing" working out together today. Ya digg?

– Here's video of Brayden Schenn and Paul Holmgren meeting with the media today. To be honest, I didn't watch the Holmgren video, but I assume anything he says is a lie.

  1. At times I almost feel bad for Brayden Schenn. In some people’s eyes, this kid is expected to replace Mike Richards and it’s just not going to happen, at least not yet. Both he and Simmonds are really under the microscope and we expect big things from both, especially the former.
On the other hand, I don’t think it was a good idea for Schenn to respond to the question, “Who in the NHL would you compare your playing style to?” with the response Mike Richards. He may have dug himself a hole with that response.
As far as Homer… saying he sees players as “good Flyers for a long time” is hypocritical. When he keeps a player for more than 4 and a half years, he can start talking about staying power. I’m surprised he still doesn’t have Simmonds signed. I guess only time will tell but for now, I don’t trust what he says either.

  2. Schenn could easily replace Richards. Just take bad penalties, turn the puck over in the offensive zone on the power play, get beat up by Brandon Dubinsky every time you fight him and act like a jerk to the media.

  3. Anyone notice how Flyin is staring right at that reporter’s knockers?

    Aye, so what’s your point?
