Ladies and gentlemen, Mets.com:

The New York Mets today announced they are teaming up with Nick Cannon, host of 92.3 NOW's Morning Show, to "Hug It Out" and help Cannon break the Guinness World Record for most hugs in one hour this Friday, August 19 at Citi Field.

Cannon, who is also the host of NBC's "America's Got Talent," is planning to hug more than 1,800 people to break the existing record of hugs given out in an hour.

The first 100 fans to line up to hug Cannon will receive Mets tickets for that night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 p.m. Everyone who hugs Cannon to help him break the record will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

Oh fuck. Really? Show up to a Mets game and get a chance to hug Mariah Carey's lame duck husband? This is that part of every single sports movie where the team just decides to shed all remaining strands of dignity and go for broke by doing crazy things like trading in the team jet for a prop plane. I'm telling you, it's coming- soon the Mets are going to be flying on Air Wisconsin. May God have mercy on their souls.
