Predictably, Giants Fans are a Bunch of Cocks

Giants_fans
You probably already knew that, but a number of folks have tipped us off to Giants fans’ response to Steve Smith’s Facebook post… which said:

I will always cherish my time in NY and the super bowl victory.. This was obviously not an easy decision for me or something i ever expected but unfortunately the business aspect proved that the eagles wanted me to be part of their organization MUCH more than the Giants did.. A special thanks to my WR buddies, coach Gilbride, all of u amazing fans on here, and the entire giants organization for drafting me.. Time for a new beginning…

Aw. Nice guy, that Steve. Let’s see what Giants fans had to say in response. Keep in mind, most of these are just from the last hour. You about ready to do some kissin’?

Eddie_christmas

Warning, the language is, um, rather colorful:

you suck loser

suck it steve

Its nice that I bought my girlfriend your jersey for christmas. She hasn't even wore it yet. So i guess I will tey to sell it on ebay and get some of my money back. Cause at the end of the day its all about the money right Steve?? Dirtbag. Hope you blow out your other knee!!

Anyone who got a signed jersey should send it back to him charred

Nice move, Lebron!

I hate how everyone is still saying your a class act. The fact is that you are a greedy, selfish, traitor. You only care about money, obviously. I just do not get ho you can talk smack on the eagles, post the empty trophy case pictures, and then go sign with the eagirls. I hope you make a fast recovry just so terrell thomas can rebreak your leg in week 3. My favorite giant to the biggest bitch in th NFL. Oh yea…FUCK YOUUUUU

douche move man

typical money hungry move you have completely embarrassed yourself you a none to new york now time to lay you out in a game u spiteful prick

i really hope u read all of these. grab me one of andy reid's cupcakes

Everyone has to realize that this is about Steve stabbing us in the back. If it was just about $$ he could have gone anywhere, but he chose the Filthedelipha PIGS!! I have no problem with what Boss did he got a hell of a lot of$$$ But Smith is a back stabbing prick who told us on Facebook how much he hates the Eagles and “I always want to be a Giant” then put it up our ass. Steve I hope Roll takes you out and ends your career!!

You choose the rival your worse then tiki good luck but your knee will break again an your career will be over giants wanted to baby you Philly will watch you break like a bitch surprisingly that you are….burning your Jersey now fucking douche

you are the biggest pussy ever steve…say your loyal to the gaints and then sign to the eagles….and dont blame the giants…they offered you a good extension last year but you didnt want to take it….all good..karma will come back and break your other leg bitch….G-MEN FOR LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are A LOT more with equally bad grammar, this is just a small sampling.

Bleeding Green Nation and the Washington Post have also detailed the response.

You know -  while I could only imagine what Jayson Werth’s Facebook page might have looked like in December – Philly fans have been painted with such a broad brush stroke, that I think we are very conscious about the way we are perceived and generally wouldn’t respond – in mass – with such vitriol. Sure, we boo and yell and bring signs, but even our nonstop lampooning of Werth isn’t done with such violent anger, it’s more a tongue-in-cheek take on him choosing money over winning (something most of us would do, anyway). There are 5,000 comments on Smith’s Facebook post. 5,000. Most of them are negative… a good amount are violent. New York, ladies and gentlemen.

In other Eagles wide receiver news, Howard Eskin is reporting that Jeremy Maclin is in St. Louis today meeting with doctors to figure out what the hell is wrong with him.

Earlier this week, Maclin denied the “career-threatening” illness conjecture that was irresponsibly thrown out on the web. However, this is getting to a very serious and odd place.

Obviously, we wish Maclin the best.

H/T to Tony

  1. Here was his follow up post, by the way.
    Steve Smith
Instead of cursing at me and wishing my family and my knee harm, i wish you could understand that i truly wanted to stay here but that the giants DIDN’T want me here unfortunately.. thank you to my true fans for standing by me and offering your support during this time… i truly appreciate it and will miss you all, even the haters bc i know ure great people deep down and are saying what u are just because youre such passionate fans

  2. I don’t condone what the Giants fans are saying. Every fanbase has their idiots. But you can honestly tell me that Eagles fans wouldn’t react like this if Desean Jackson went from the Eagles to the Giants like this? When you break it down, sports fans are very similar.

  3. i agree with Patrick. Werth to the Nats is NOTHING like a giant going to the eagles or vice versa. The rivalry is *slightly* more intense, dontcha think?

  4. I don’t think Eagles fans would react THAT harsh if Desean went to the giants udner similar circumstances. We’d curse Lurie and Banner for not signing him to enough like the Giants fans should be doing to their ownership…It’s not his fault he wants to play football and be paid a reasonable amount for it – a 100+ catch receiver who is Eli’s favorite target and they couldn’t throw like $3 mill at him guarenteed?? Shame on the Giant’s ownership in my view…but hey go Eagles i’ll sure as hell take him

  5. I’m going to just go ahead and assume that Patrick and jeff didn’t happen to see the comments threatening to kill Smith’s family. Or the ones that were blatantly racist.
    Good folks, those New Yorkers.
(And for the record, as vitriolic as Eagles fans are, no, I don’t see them reacting to *this* extent.)

  6. Just the latest example of sports meaning way too much to the common people. I read these articles, I find the humor in the site to be entertaining, I watch the phils almost every day, but I don’t let it dictate my day or my emotions, not anymore. Maybe ten years ago I would pass this off and say it’s no big deal, but stand back and understand all that’s wrong with the world right now, and this should be small potatos. It could have been any city, any fanbase (glad it wasn’t Philly, Santa re-lived), but no human being should be subjected to that for doing what any of us would do in our own jobs, move on for a higher paycheck. Welcome to the Birds Steve, you obviously made the right choice.

  7. @Josh,
I disagree. You would have had some comments on the same violent/racist level from Eagle fans. When you are talking about a bitter rival, many, many fans don’t hold back. And that goes for Philly as well.
Not to bring up the common phrases, but my example is the fans cheering when they brought out a stretcher for Michael Irvin. It was obvious the guy was in SERIOUS trouble, and I had to hear fans behind me yelling stuff like “get him some crack, he’ll be fine!” and things along those lines- yes I was there. It was despicable, and shows that no crazy passionate fan base will hold themselves back from saying stupid/dangerous/ignorant things. It just happens. Everywhere.
It doesn’t excuse that behavior or the Giants fans saying this. It doesn’t make it any less sickening. But take the wool off your eyes. This would have in Philly, Boston, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and probably 2-3 other cities. What do we always say in defending Philly? “EVERY area has idiots.”
I still like when it’s pointed out that it’s New York, though.

  8. There are crazy ass holes in every fan base. They’re EVERYWHERE. A lot of those comments are harsh and while I do feel Philly fans would be more angry at the front office, I think there would be the same type of tasteless comments. I can tell you right now then when Banner/Reid/Heckert let Dawkins walk, I proclaimed that I would punch Joe Banner in the jaw if I ever see him in person, for letting Dawk wear another teams jersey. It’s the nature of the beast.
On another kind of related note, did anyone else see the Giants VP slam the Giants fans? He layed into his own fan base. Story in the link below.

  9. @bleue, sports is an escape for the common people, a 2-4 hour vacation from the daily grind. While i dont condone what these Dick hole Giant fans are typing i understand their frustration. They are just going about it all wrong. Passion is what seperates true fans from casual. It bonds fathers and sons, friends and familes. To paraphrase James Earl Jones “we always have baseball” and hockey and football. They dont break your heart or let you down. Teams do but not the sport. They may go away for a brief hiatus(lockout/strike) but they always return just as you remember it. And teams are a representation of our city and thus the people that inhabit it. I bleed GREEN, ORANGE and SCARLET RED(sixers dont count) and am proud to rep the city!

  10. Giants fan tweeted: “Can you say definitively the Giants are better than last year?”
Hanlon’s reply: “Can you say we’re worse, knucklehead?”
    bwaaaahahahaha, love it, smugness

  11. @ Josh
i saw the comments, and i stand by mine. I dont think the comments on facebook (of all places) says anything about sane, normal, passionate giants fans. And i don’t think you, me, or anyone else here would say anything like that to a player. But to flatly deny that there would be a segment of Eagles fans that would say things like that (the bad grammar, internet shit talking type of fan), you’re not being honest with yourself.

  12. Hey Giants Fans! Remember when the Eagles scored four TDs in less than 7:30 to comeback for an improbable 38-31 win at the Eagles first game at the New Meadowlands Stadium? OOOOO yea! Feel that stinging! Yes, let it simmer. SLAP!!!!

  13. One word regarding people who waste their time venting to such an insane degree over the departure of a player who the Giants didn’t want to keep—-LOSERS! I’d suggest these knuckledraggers go and get themselves girlfriends, or, failing that, get themselves laid, but I seriously doubt any woman with a working brain cell would go near those neanderthals.

  14. It’s not like the Giants didn’t have plenty of time to sign Steve Smith to a deal. I mean free agency has been open for what…2 weeks? These fans should be mad that NYG never made him an offer, giving him the opportunity to sign with a division rival.

  15. Also worth noting that a lot of the people trashing Steve Smith today for signing with Philly were praising him for being such a class act for being a player who actually goes out of his way to thank fans and whatnot only a few days ago. Pretty funny.

  16. I stopped reading after 3700 comments when I emailed Kyle the link to Smith’s page…I can’t imagine the rest of the 1300 comments I didn’t read where any more tame.
I think some Eagles fans would stoop to the level that those Giants fans did…however I’d be the house there would be A LOT more Eagles fans posting positive comments or comments at least denounced the idiotic statements…you didn’t see that happening much in the clusterfuck of a status that was.
Yes, as Eagles fans we’re assholes, I wear that moniker proudly but I know I personally wouldn’t cross the line those fans did….we catch such hell for ANYTHING we do or say…I’m sorry but what went on in those comments is nothing short of atrocious…and Giants fans everywhere should be ashamed.

  17. HAHAHAHA, the NY Giants are gonna suck this year. I love all the superbowl comments. Hey, I’m gonna watch the birds live on Sunday’s this year. Giants fans will have to watch ESPN Classic if they want to cheer for their squad………Now go get Osi, lol!!!!!!

  18. Whenever someone trashes Philly fans I say the same thing. “crazy idiotic fans are the same in every city”. And I say that now. People are people. Sports fans are sports fans. We would see the same shit here in Philly and probably at about the same split of positive to negative…..although I am sure that none of us on this blog would stoop to this level.

  19. He’s gonna sell the Steve Smith jersey on eBay? Huh? Guess that’s as dumb as buying it in the first place so not surprising. BTW this Giants PR guy tweeting bleep you type responses to fans is “pure gold, Jerry, pure gold.” Eagles are full on 100% in the head of Giants fans right now and it’s awesome.

  20. NY fans, they but 2 jerseys for all sports, yanks/mets jets/giants wear whatever one is doing better at the time. They’re loud when they’re doing well and they’re invisible when thier teams are in the toilet. The ultimate bandwagoneers and shallow fan base the big crapple. Interesting times we love in, Philly has more money nowadays? really? BTW – Eli looks like he’s half mongoloid.
