UPDATE: Alas, Rob Lowe Proved to Not be a Credible Source of Breaking NFL News

Did you hear about Peyton?

Hilarious. Rob Lowe – yes, the actor – is reporting that Peyton Manning will retire. This is what Lowe, who is a Colts fan, tweeted from an account that I’m not certain wasn’t hacked:

Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow.#Colts

@richeisen My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear? #NFL

#Colts fans, let's hope my info is wrong. Don't like being wrong, but this time… I'm hoping #NFL #Manning

And now the world roots for the demise of Peyton Manning, just so today, January 18, can be the day Rob Lowe scooped all of Western Civilization.

There’s really no way to sum this up other than:

Thanks, SOPA.

UPDATE: There goes ESPN’s Chris Mortensen ruining all the fun. He spoke with Archie Manning and relays the following via his Twitter:

Archie Manning laughed when he heard @RobLowe said Peyton will retire, "Noooo…he ain't retiring. I think he would've told me."

Archie also says it's no publicity gimmick with Grand Opening tonight of "Manning's" sports-themed restaurant in New Orleans.

Not sure I buy that second part, but, yeah, Manning’s probably not retiring.

  1. I don’t know why Rob Lowe didn’t tell me this when I was in the surfing lineup with him in Santa Barbara two weekends ago! I even let him have a wave. That bastard!

  2. Today, I am so glad for Twitter. It may be my favorite day ever.
    From this
    to #FactsWithoutWikipedia
    to #thingsbetterthanSOPA
It has been quite an entertaining day on the Twitters.
The internet should shut down every day.

  3. I haven’t gotten a hair cut since the flyers lost in the playoffs. But I don’t plan on cutting it. But i want to win for the beer.

  4. doesn’t take much to have all the media assholes in the country jumping – some actor tweets a bullshit rumor and the blogging world and new media go apeshit
what a bunch of fucking nitwits –
maybe the internet should be shutdown

  5. It’s all in the interpretation of what he said. RL said he was HEARING PM would retire. Now this a bit of a technicality, but he didn’t say SOURCES are saying PM will retire. The second being somewhat more breaking news than the original tweet which I interpret as hey I heard this, what do you think? I think RL meant the context of the tweet to be interpreted as a fan making a comment, rather than a journalist making a factual statement. there is a huge difference between a fan and a journalist.
