The Flyers Finally Practiced Shootouts AND EVERYONE WANTS TO TELL YOU ABOUT IT

Good news and two items of bad news. Let’s bookend this shit.

Bad news: We’re still in the winter doldrums of Philly sports. Mid-season hockey and basketball with no football or baseball. As such, you get posts like this one.

Good news: The Flyers practiced shootouts today, something that was sorely needed for the team that is 1-5 in such scenarios this season.

Bad news: Every. single. beat. writer. tweeted live updates of the meaningless event.

During the first few shootouts of this season, it was the goaltending that let the Flyers down in the arbitrary extra frame.

On January 31 against the Jets, it was the shooters who let down the goaltender– Bryz stopped 23 shots plus 2-of-3 in the shootout only to see the Flyers go 0-for-3 in their chances.

Last night, the Islanders scored two quick goals before Wayne Simmonds flubbed his must-make attempt. So, today, the Flyers finally took some time to work on things in practice. We all look forward to improved results, if only so we don’t have to experience Twitter bombs like this from the scriptuals:
