Video: Hunter Pence Smashes a Ground Ball into Miguel Cabrera’s Eye

Screen Shot 2012-03-19 at 3.54.59 PM

Known masher Hunter Pence smoked a ground ball that bounced into the eye (area) of Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera in the first inning of today’s game. There was quite a bit of blood, but Cabrera appeared to shake it off pretty well, all things considered. He would later be taken to the hospital for stitches and further evaluation, according to the Phillies’ broadcast.

Video after the jump.

  1. That happened to me once except i was pitching…the whole left side of my face was the size of a water melon the next day

  2. I’ve taken a ground ball to the face before, hurts like a bitch. Hope he’s alright.

  3. How the hell did he judge the bounce on that so badly? Must’ve hit a crazy spot on the infield.

  4. @DannyMcG Yeah, I got the video to pause at the right frame, it hit the very edge of the grass. Worst spot to try to play a ground ball. I’ve had it hit the corner grass at first before and it took off in a completely different direction.

  5. It’s awesome that guys are comparing this to taking a grounder to the face in little league…
On a side-note, how long before this clip finds its way to fail blog?

  6. @Joey Baps Umm try American Legion baseball and college ball, I played with a decent amount of players that got drafted. So shut the fuck up.

  7. He took it like a man. Imagine if it were Crosby. He’d try to sue the league to stop using rubber pucks and instead make them plush.
& yes, i know that has nothing to do with baseball.

  8. If he was a hockey player he would have been stitched up and back in the game by the 3rd inning. #realmenplayhockey
