Larry Andersen Tried to Get the Phillies to Appeal This Play… By Screaming Out the Broadcast Booth

It’s no secret that Larry Andersen doesn’t like umpires, or, perhaps more appropriately, can’t deal with any injustice that befalls his beloved team – your beloved team - the Philadelphia Phillies.

Yesterday, when Aaron Hill popped out in foul territory to Carlos Ruiz, LA was a bit upset over the fact that the Phillies missed Willie Bloomquist, who was running on the play, stepping over the third base bag as he retreated back to second base. Andersen wanted the Phillies to throw to third and appeal the play, but Ruiz and Cole Hamels had, seemingly, missed the baserunning gaff. So LA did his best to alert the Phils… by screaming “appeal it!” from the broadcast booth.

The Phillies didn’t hear him.

Here’s the play, overlaid with the radio broadcast. Just step over the jump with me.

You see how much better games would be if Franzke and LA were on TV?

    OMG! This is absolutely hysterical.
And too bad they love the radio too much to be on TV

Why don’t they sync up the radio broadcast with the tv broadcast? There always seems to be a delay.

They talk just the right amount for TV too. No inane chatter.
Internet cast seems to synch better than radio with the TV.

I happened to catch this yesterday as I was driving. Nearly lost control as I imagined him leaning out the booth trying to wave down Cole Hamels to get his attention. It was hysterical, and was followed up on the next play by his disgust at how wide the base bath had become in the eyes of the umpires.
Was nearly reminiscent of the Harry and Whitey days. I vow to never listen to the TV play-by-play again.

Why is LA not managing this team? He’d be a better manager with half a load on than that idiot in the dugout right now.

How in god’s name did the umps miss that?

Not the umps responsibility, we’d have to appeal. He didn’t really advance down the 3rd baseline, so I’m not surprised they didn’t bother appealing.

HAHA “half a load on” …as if LA is ever halfway there… i imagine that he rolls out of bed with a bottle of jack every morning. reminds me of the ‘major league’ flicks with bob uecker.
i’m totally going to give the internet broadcast/television synch a try on the advice of airedale… got i hate wheels and t-bag.

Because he’s frickin’ awesome. I’d like LA and Franske to fight Tmac and Wheels to the death for rights to the television broadcast. We all know who would win. Sarge can stay. I love Sarge and miss his Cadillac call. Where did it go? Is it lost?

Not sure if I’ve ever heard a radio guy do something like that before. He’s a trip.

Larry Anderson is the best baby. I love how he has weekends off in the summer to drink at his shore house

…so NO one thinks this is bush league? Also, when he steps all over the play by play of a home run? They are easier to take than T-Mac, but c’mon- I don’t need a fan in the booth…

    Is RM really Wheels?
How could you be a phillies fan and not love LA and Franskie and wish they could swap out to tv with mac and wheels..

As far as I know MLB.TV is subject to local blackout. So unless you are out of the area you can’t watch any Phillies games.

Anybody with a DVR can pause the game till the radio catches up. It takes a little while to get the timing right but it’s worth it to not have to hear wheels retarded commentary and general smugness.

    LA is awesome.
I tried the DVR-phasing once but found it too cumbersome to do on a regular basis.
I despise T-Smack and Squeels. Rather have Ren and Stimpy do the broadcasts.

LA’s a bitch! Does anyone not realize Tommy Mac’s bust line?? And no one’s got the knowledge I have. Where else can you get comparisons between the present day Phils and the 1903 Boston Americans? What more could you animals ask for?!

Sarge’s Cadillac call isn’t gone, the Phils just are NOT hitting HR’s, in case you haven’t noticed.
