Larry Andersen Tried to Get the Phillies to Appeal This Play... By Screaming Out the Broadcast Booth
It’s no secret that Larry Andersen doesn’t like umpires, or, perhaps more appropriately, can’t deal with any injustice that befalls his beloved team – your beloved team - the Philadelphia Phillies.
Yesterday, when Aaron Hill popped out in foul territory to Carlos Ruiz, LA was a bit upset over the fact that the Phillies missed Willie Bloomquist, who was running on the play, stepping over the third base bag as he retreated back to second base. Andersen wanted the Phillies to throw to third and appeal the play, but Ruiz and Cole Hamels had, seemingly, missed the baserunning gaff. So LA did his best to alert the Phils… by screaming “appeal it!” from the broadcast booth.
The Phillies didn’t hear him.
Here’s the play, overlaid with the radio broadcast. Just step over the jump with me.
You see how much better games would be if Franzke and LA were on TV?
