Claude Giroux Had Wrist Surgery

The Flyers released their list of offseason surgeries today. They are:

Wayne Simmonds – Had surgery to repair broken left index finger. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks.
Matt Carle – Had surgery to repair torn stomach muscle. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks.
Claude Giroux – Had surgery on his right wrist to repair torn cartilage and surgery on his left wrist to remove bone spurs. Recovery time is 6 weeks.
Kimmo Timonen – Will have surgery next week to remove a disc fragment from his lower back. Full recovery is expected in 8-10 weeks.
James van Riemsdyk – Will have surgery next week to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. Recovery time is 6 weeks.


The JVR one is the least surprising.

  1. If Giroux needs a nurse to help with bathing and really anything else for that matter, I will gladly volunteer my services

  2. By Game 2 of the Devils series, there were rumblings that Giroux had injured both wrists. When he didn’t take 5 consecutive defensive zone face-offs, it was clear something was up.

  3. In related news, Ilya Bryzgalov will have surgery to repair his fractured vagina.

  4. Not surprised by the news on Giroux. Saw that one coming in January/February when Hartnell let it slip that he was taking face-offs for the first time since pee-wees because Giroux had a wrist injury.

  6. Unfortunately, FOX – the same network that aired an hour’s worth of Brits receiving the Champions League trophy yesterday – pissed down its leg and didn’t show us any of Pat Burrell’s retirement ceremony.
