According to a report by Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies have just traded Jim Thome to the Orioles. CSN’s Jim Salisbury first reported that the two teams were talking.
Rosenthal says the trade will be announced after the game.
UPDATE: Multiple reports say the Phillies will receive single-A pitcher Kyle Simon and, according to Rosenthal, minor league catcher Gabriel Lino in return. So much for all those folks who expected a big reliever.
My thoughts on trading Thome, from Friday.

Orioles got a bunch of good relievers if we got anyone but a reliever I’m gone be pissed
Thome was a pussy for not playing 1st
I hate to see Jim go, but the trade to an AL team made sense since he couldn’t play at first because of his back, so he was limited to pinch hitting. And with Ryan Howard perhaps a couple of weeks away from returning, Thome would’ve rottted away on the bench. I only wish Ruben could’ve gotten more in return from Baltimore than he did.

It’s funny that people think/thought Jim Thome could fetch a major league reliever in return.
BORROW PAULS GUN AND START SELLING RUBEN
2-8 and .218, both in a-ball. Future slop? Future Riversharks?
Time to sell! Everyone must go!
Anyone in their sober mind would support this, the phils didn’t need him and he will have a better seasonin Baltimore , he hasn’t played in the field for a lOng time. And for those cutting on bastardo, you wouldn’t be saying trade Him last year
Excellent move by Amaro. I’ve been calling for this since spring training. Now, if they could only do what I’ve been saying for years–move Chase Utley to an AL team. His knees are shot and he’s only suitable as a DH at this point. I didn’t agree with letting Wilson Valdez go in the spring, as he would’ve been an adequate back up for Galvis and the team could use his defense and an upgrade over Utley at this point in his career.
Fuck him! Now, you listen to me! I want trading reopened right now. Get those brokers back in here! Turn those machines back on!
Turn those machines back on!
well it’s precisely because Thome was hot that it was time to trade him. Thome helped us win probably 5 games, and now he got us a couple of young players (I just don’t understand getting a catcher when we could use another young outfielder or reliever prospect). So all in all we did well with Thome and we can also be happy that he’ll get to play out his final year. Win win for everyone as far as I’m concerned.
Wait, where are the “Big Poker” comments, Kyle?
Thome was a pos anyway
Phillyhotseat is such a dumbass – I’m laughing my ass off at your shitty post/baseball knowledge
lol NO ONE expected a big reliever. i said get any fucking relief help that will help the big league club NOW
aka give up another prospect in the deal and maybe get a decent fucking rp
you really are a shit phillies blogger..and probably in general
Kyle Scott is a fucking douchebag.
I don’t get the Yanks’ fan comment. I think most Phils fans are happy for Thome and glad we got some prospects out of it. Your comment doesn’t make any sense.
@Yanks Fan at Penn: ps have fun with Qualls
Hey, Kyle, did we get anything for him? Get back to your TMZ posting and humorous quips, and less trying to write like an actual analytical sports writer.
