Very sad news. Andy Reid’s son, Garrett, 29, was found dead in his dorm room at Lehigh this morning at around 7:20 a.m., Howie Roseman told the media. No foul play is suspected and the coroner said an investigation is ongoing.

Garrett had several run-ins with the law, all relating to drug use. In 2009, he was sent back to prison after flunking a drug test. It’s important to note that there’s no official cause of death, however. Garrett was in Lehigh for training camp, where he was assisting Eagles strength and conditioning coaches.

Andy, who encouraged the Eagles to continue camp, was absent from practice this morning, fueling speculation among beat writers over his whereabouts. Players were instructed not to speak to reporters after their walkthrough. Roseman addressed the media a few moments later.

10:45 a.m.

Jeffrey Lurie released a statement: "This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family. Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children."

The Eagles announced that Marty Mornhinweg and Juan Castillo will oversee the team until Andy’s return.

11:30 a.m.

Dave Spadaro tweeted that practice will go on as scheduled today at 2:30.

You can watch Roseman’s tearful press conference after the jump.

Our thoughts go out to the Reid family.

  1. Brian, I read on a different article that he was assisting the strength and conditioning coaches. I’m only assuming he was trying to enter into that career since his past wasn’t that terrific. However, the cause of his death isn’t out so I won’t assume anything in that regard. RIP man.

  2. So sad. Condolences. Also to Brian. He was there to assist his father. What’s wrong with that?

  3. I never wanted to let go of my daughters hand when she was 5. Tell everyone in your life you love them everyday.
My heart goes out to the Reid family.

  4. Prayers going out to the Reid family. Losing a family member at any age for any reason is hard. Look up to God he will carry you through this terrible time.

  5. I heard Trent cole had some of is Avalon whores up Leigh last night and the were doing blow in Reid’s room

  6. Actually, EVERY news outlet has been posting pictures/video from when he was in court, since that’s basically the only file footage they have of him.
    RIP Garrett

  7. Anyone who wishes to share negativity like some previous commentors should really check their morals and respect the Reid family’s privacy. Every man makes mistakes in life, some more troubled then others, but obviously Garrett was trying to overcome his past anyway he could. RIP and may the family find peace.

Regardless if you feel sympathy for tcircumstances surrounding hits death, a mother and father lost a child and a brother lost his brother, act like you have half a heart or you’re no better than the scumbag the world is now better off without… But sometime has to be THAT GUY so thanks for playing the role

  10. Your morals are not fine. And if you base life and death on one’s morals, your time is coming very soon, evaporationboy. Maybe fate will do us a favor, and see that you evaporate from this planet.
