Navy SEAL Mentions Watching Phillies Game in Book About Killing bin Laden

image from mocksession.com
I downloaded Navy SEAL Mark Owen’s book about killing Osama bin Laden, No Easy Day, when it came out on September 4. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet made it far enough to read the part where Owen (a pen name) explains what the SEALs did hours after taking down the most wanted terrorist in the world. The folks over at Philebrity did, however, and found this nugget about Owen and his buddies watching coverage when they got back to base. They smoked cigars, grilled lobster, and awaited their flight home. And, this: [Google Books]

“The mission had been secret for over a month now, and suddenly it was all over the news. We watched footage of the crowds that spontaneously gathered outside the White House, Ground Zero, and the Pentagon. At a Major League Baseball game in Philadelphia, fans started to chant “U-S-A.” Everyone commented about how young they looked. Kids like that didn’t know what the United States was like before September 11, 2001.”

None of that should be a surprise, but pretty cool to see that the SEALs, a world away, experienced joy the same way you did. Except for, you know, the fact that they had just put a round into bin Laden.

  1. WT? come on now. Talk about wearing the right jersey at the right time. You will see that dudes face every anniversary of Bin Laden’s death. It was the best news in a decade. U-S-A.

  2. Sometimes I don’t like my country, then I think about the Navy SEALs and I remember how lucky I am. Also, that dude is NOT WT.

  3. Osama Bin Laden was a CIA asset until the USA no longer needed him.
When “our guys” become “bad guys” its called “blowback”
kinda like Kevin Kolb….with alot of C4

  4. My observation of the dude wearing the jersey, is that he looks like he’s white trash. It’s america, we’re allowed our opinions

  5. I apologize, I was just baiting. In reality, he’s a class act who wore the right jersey at the right time

  6. anyone noticed that when it was announced during the game that it was the 9th inning and the score is 1-1..

  7. So to “Finger Lenny”, which by the way sounds like a poor porn name, that “white trash dude” you speak of is my brother and he’s the farthest thing from white trash. Anyone that has the nerve to comment something so ridiculous as that on a post celebrating America is an ignorant and pompous ass who should keep their comments to themselves. If you’re going to have an opinion at least make it intelligent, after all it is America, you’re allowed to have an opion, we just prefer if them to be a little less moronic.

    1. Flyers Girl,

I’m a TV Producer and I’m doing a story on the 5th anniversary of the Bin Laden game. I’d love to find your brother and interview him for the story if it at all possible about his experience at the game…

  9. Elaborating on AI TRU’s comment: Bin Laden was also openly diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome (can’t survive more than a year without constant close medical attention) and was claimed to have been killed multiple times in the years following 9/11 yet for some reason this time when they parade it around it becomes fact. Not one shred of evidence has been provided the public and most the gov’t, just an announcement and these convenient books and movies to help sell the lie. On top of that most of the SEAL Team 6 crew responsible for ‘killing’ Bin Laden died in a helicopter accident soon after. As you can tell I don’t believe the fable of Bin Laden’s killing especially due to the fact that the video feed to Obama with the Seals never existed (although the media loved selling that idea), the photo they took when Obama/Hillary Clinton etc found out was completely staged. If they had killed him they would have paraded his corpse around the streets like Gaddaffi/Hussein. If you want the facts look it up yourself don’t have your news spoon fed to you.

  10. September 10, 2001: US Generals Warned Not to Fly on Morning of 9/11
    Edit event
According to a Newsweek report on September 13, “[t]he state of alert had been high during the past two weeks, and a particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft may become a hot topic on the Hill.” [Newsweek, 9/13/2001] Far from becoming a hot topic, the only additional media mention of this story will be in the next issue of Newsweek: “a group of top Pentagon officials suddenly canceled travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security concerns.” [Newsweek, 9/24/2001]
