The Eagles won, yet I suspect local media will still hammer Andy Reid for his curious decision to ice Lawrence Tynes before he attempted a somewhat rushed 54-yard game-winner(loser?). And surely, had Tynes made his second attempt and the Giants won, Reid would have been deserving of every ounce of criticism aimed in his general direction (which certainly wouldn’t require much precision).

He was aware of the potentially ugly situation that would have doomed him forever in this great city:

"Yeah, when you’re surrounded by 66,000 that probably want to rip your throat out at that time, that’s about twenty-fold what Custer felt."

[For a moment, I thought that Reid, in joyful exuberance following a big win, said Custard instead of Custer. But, sadly, upon further review, he didn’t.]

Reid’s right, too. It would have been the most vile, vitriolic, and dangerous situation ever for a local coach. But Tynes didn’t make it, because he has a woman’s leg. And the Eagles won. And Reid ran the ball, quite successful. And the Eagles are now 3-1, with wins over the Ravens and Giants.

So, if for just one week, let’s lay off Reid and his head-scratching decision to ice the kicker… and just be glad that he actually had a timeout to do it with.
