  1. After seeing this story I clicked the “comments” section with an excited smile to see the absurd comments posted.
Sadly, none of them made me laugh. In fact, It’s a goddamn dispute that soccer moms have about adoption – it’s like Philly.com’s comments section – only more depleted and empty.
CB a month ago would have had incredibly clever and funny comments about this story – now it’s just a bunch of cornball softball responses.
    fuck this

  2. RollinsBrain…agreed. I mean some of the commentors were totally out of hand…but this new log in seems like it has driven a lot of the people who were just breaking balls and having fun away as well.

  3. Is this adoption done out of love for this child, or is it just another celeb couple trying to keep up with Angelina Jolie ?
trends….from carrying yappi dogs around like a purse to adopting a 3rd world child.
nothing screams ” I’m a philanthropist” like attention getting celebs.
Do it because your heart tells you to….not your agent.

  4. @Brad Jackson: It depends. Did the American children have original ideas or inventions that warranted patents? Race and citizenship have absolutely nothing to do with how patents are distributed.
Also, you are an uneducated heathen and I dislike you on a personal and spiritual level.

  5. Trust me, our orphanages over here must look like a freaking palace to some little Ethiopian kid. “You mean I get running water AND food that isn’t infected? Sign me up.”

  6. For all the ignorant douches making nasty comments, this baby was left in a field all alone, was found and taken to an orphanage. The Hamels have had their name on a list 4 years and are genuinely good people who share their wealth. Who would he have to impress. It is a little girl and she is adorable. STFU!

  7. In the past D would have been shredded for such an in depth and touching comment. I come here to get a chuckle from the nonsene comments and its pussies like you that destroyed the entertainment this blog used to provide. Get lost and take your liberal mindset with you.

  8. Sure Al Tru, cause nothing screams “racist asshole” like tying 3rd world children to little yapping dogs in the same sentence. The hamels are obviously pishposh snooty celebs, with their snobby “trend” foundation that has raised millions for impovershid children in Africa AND the US. And i didnt know a trend lasted four years either, since theyve waited on a list that long to adopt, so thanks for that lesson.
But i shouldn’t be surprised. Obviously you’re the foremost expert on their personal lives and know exactly what motivates their selfish habits of donating time and money to helping children. They don’t do it from their hearts because they’re evil and have no hearts (yet you watch him on tv and cheer for him). But I’m sure all the time that you obviously spend helping others is completely done from your heart. Thanks for your awesome contribution.

  9. I have personally been involved in local benefits for people with health issues and losing their homes. Did you know that the NFL’s Breast Cancer Fund only gives 5% of all they take in for that month ? It’s the contract language that makes the difference. “all proceeds” or ” percentage of all profits”.
When you can hand over thousands of dollars in cash to a family whose house burned to the ground, you eliminate the middlemen and the 501c bullshit. I grew up in Chester and worked in Camden. I’ve seen the orphans and homeless and hungry up close. ” He who dies rich dies disgraced” – Andrew Carnegie

  10. Just one example….
WASHINGTON — Tampa, Fla., socialite and military hostess Jill Kelley, one of the women at the center of the ever-expanding scandal that brought down former CIA Director David Petraeus, founded a questionable charity for cancer patients with her surgeon husband, Scott Kelley.
Based out of the couple’s mansion, the Doctor Kelley Cancer Foundation claimed on its tax forms that it “shall be operated exclusively to conduct cancer research and to grant wishes to terminally ill adult cancer patients.”
From the records, it appears that the charity fell far short of its mission. While the origins of the seed money used to start the charity in 2007 are unclear, financial records reviewed by The Huffington Post reveal that the group spent all of its money not on research, but on parties, entertainment, travel and attorney fees.
By the end of 2007, the charity had gone bankrupt, having conveniently spent exactly the same amount of money, $157,284, as it started with — not a dollar more, according to its 990 financial form. Of that, $43,317 was billed as “Meals and Entertainment,” $38,610 was assigned to “Travel,” another $25,013 was spent on legal fees, and $8,822 went to “Automotive Expenses.”
The Kelleys also listed smaller expenses that appear excessive for a charity operating from a private home, including $12,807 for office expenses and supplies, and $7,854 on utilities and telephones.
Jill Kelley’s sister, Natalie Khawam, was listed as the only other officer of the charity. This past April, Khawam filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing more than $3.6 million in liabilities, including $53,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service and $800,000 owed to her sister and brother-in-law.
Efforts to reach the Kelleys and Khawam were unsuccessful.

  11. Heidi’s Wiki page has been deleted….maybe it was the peanut butter and oreo cookies.
Heidi Strobel (Courtesy Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Heidi Strobel (born October 29, 1978, Bethesda, Maryland) was a contestant on season six of the American reality television show Survivor: The Amazon. She placed fifth, lasting thirty-six days. During an endurance challenge, she and fellow contestant Jenna Morasca stripped off their clothing in exchange for peanut butter and Oreo cookies. The two would later appear in the August 2003 edition of Playboy magazine.

  12. Okkk…I’m not sure what the charitable scam of a woman involved in a huge spider-web of a scandal have to do with Cole Hamels adopting an abandoned 3rd world child…I get it, people like that and the NFL scam people…Again, what does that have to do with this? What indication is there; what proof do you have that points to the hamels being attention seeking snobs? I get mad at celebrity types who do what you’re talking about, but there’s nothing about this that reeks of anything like it. I get the inclination to jump on rich people that seem like disingenuous yuppies, but I cant get mad at people like the hamels, or Brangelinas of the world. I look at them and think thyre using their wealth and resources a lot more responsibily and generously when compared to sociopathic lunatics like Lindsay Lohan or Charlie sheen, or athletes who spend 20000 a night on a bar tab. You help people and I commend that, but why the disdain for something like this?

  13. WHEELERSUCKS….agreed; helping your fellow man is the best concept i can think of. Heidi Strobel Hamels has had a taste of that Hollywood spotlight…people will do anything to remain in its glow. Look at those Philebrity photos of Cole and Heidi in bed, the look on Cole’s face is “WTF am I doing ?”
Bill Gates has donated $28 Billion to charity.
No Vanity Fair photo shoots, no “Beautiful People”.
Too much ego will kill your talent.
