Mike Rice Hitting His Players

If you haven’t seen it, here’s the video of Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice hitting his players. Tremendous reporting by ESPN’s John Barr.

  1. I get the shock and alarm over the physical abuse (kicking, throwing basketballs, etc.), but the whole jersey grab-and-drag has been going on in many sports at all levels for years. So has the verbal abuse. Nothing new there.

EMM, i thought the same things with the grabbing of the jersey. its one thing to grab a jersey and move a guy to another position out of frustration. however, he is violently grabbing and clutching the jersey as if he is assaulting that player. clearly, he was a dr. jeckyl-mr. hyde coach in that he cleaned up such behaviors a certain some around was around to see it, which means he knew there was right and wrong and for that, he should and probably will be canned!

  4. I’m not saying it’s right. Nor am I saying it’s effective. All I’m saying is that there are thousands of jackasses (I refuse to call them coaches) – basketball, football, baseball, or otherwise – throughout the land that exercise this behavior.
