Restricted free agent Jonathan Bernier was traded to the Maple Leafs today. So, that rumor has come to an end.

As much as i hate to see this for the love of my flyers, I also love it for kyle’s complete hatred towards bryz! Let the circus continue!
Homer always cums up a tad short
Wow, I was really hoping for Matt Read and a pick but nice trade for the Kings and good for JB! Holmgren sure looks bad here choosing to stick with the puck-ducker Bryz (I would have paid his fare to KHL out of my own pocket).
Flyers may have blown it here big time.
Just great. We finally have a shot at having a real franchise goalie long-term, and we lose out to the Leafs???
Matt Read had better score 50 goals next season and win the Conn Smythe as the Flyers win the Cup with ____ in net, or I am going to head to Homers house with torches & pitchforks.
It’s always groundhog day with the Flyers.
holy moses, i wanted the guy too, but the he has 30 career wins…overreact much
Good. I’m glad Homer didn’t get a chance to do something stupid.
Seriously. Any rational Flyers fan should be thinking the same thing right now.
Should still amnesty Bryz immediately…
Yep, and leave ourselves with a freshly drafted, unproven rookie who has yet to practice in an nhl jersey, and a guy in Mason whose actual play and statistics have been amongst the worst in the league for the past three or four years…Great idea.
I’d take Steve Mason with a $1.5M cap hit over Bryz and his $5.67M any day of the week. And who says their other goalie has to be an rookie? They can sign a cheap free agent vet like Nabakov, Jose Theodore or even Ray Emery to pair with him. Combined one of those guys plus Mason will make just a little over half of what Bryz makes. So they’ll be able to get rid of a problem and free up money to spend on the wing and the blueline where we actually need it. No matter how you slice it, a $5.67M cap hit for Bryz is just a colossal waste of money.
well said :slammin gretzkys daughter: i think mason will grow to be better than bryzyz and 2 D men with that money should be suitable
Mason has been the worst goalie in the NHL for the past three seasons. You people are idiots.
Looks like the Leafs really didn’t give up that much for the Second Coming of Ken Dryden. Homer, of course, would have traded Couturier, Laughton, Read and the 11th overall pick in this years draft for Bernier.
How & why & how does Paul Holmgren still have a job??
Kyle, i almost always have your back but i hope you didn’t hurt yourself with this voluminous piece. Come on, get out of the doldrums here. At the least you could say who he was traded for and give your opinion but no, you take the easy (hungover maybe) approach and post twenty words. i know you must be working on something big, like Edward Snowden and his trip to Ecuador via Moscow…
Thank you Jesus homer didn’t give up the 11th pick.
Can’t say I’m disappointed. I thought Bernier was too much of an unknown to risk trading for.
Has anyone thought that maybe I wasn’t willing to give up the goods you all covet so much (ie Read, Cooter, etc) for an unproven goalie? Maybe the Leafs didn’t beat me to it. Maybe LA was asking too much. Maybe give me the benefit of the doubt.
Plan B is Emery from Chicago. If that deal falls through as well, expect Bryz in net ( or on the bench) next season…
Agreed. Corey Crawford has made Emery expendable in Chicago. If Holmgren has even one working brain cell, he starts work on bringing him back along with signing another couple of beasts for the blue line.
Thank good the Flyers still have the 11th pick so they can go ahead and waste it on yet another low skilled scrappy forward project rather than on a puck moving sure handed defenseman. Just wait.
90% of the commenters no less about hockey than ESPN… impressive.
