Oh My God the Flyers are Going to Sign Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas is expected to announce his return to hockey, and guess what team is the perfect fit?

The Orange and Black, of course.

Thomas’ agent said that he has been asked to explore options for his client, and there is already some speculation from hockey folks on Twitter that the Flyers may have made a pitch to Thomas last week.

The Flyers seem content with Steve Mason as the goalie of the future, so Thomas, at 39, might be a good 1-2 year option. He took a year off – which is weird – but led the Bruins to a Stanley Cup just two years ago. Oh, and both he and Ed Snider hate Obama… so that will help.

Meanwhile, today Snider admitted that paying a Russian $39 million for two years of service was a mistake.

Lock it here on Friday for our (now) annual Flyers free agency running commentary.

2 years ago is right you bone smoker. The reason the Flyers suck big beefy dick like your mom is because they make rash decisions like you and go for big names who don’t deliver. Just because you play NHL on the xbox in your mom’s basement doesn’t qualify you to know anything about hockey. Go do some shots and take a drive you fecal falcon

Why do we have to sign EVERY washed up goalie that was ran out of their old town. That’s why we can’t have nice things, like The Stanley Cup!

What’s not to like? Let Thomas & Mason compete for the starting gig.

Are we supposed to not like the guy because he is a conservative? (Better that than a Marxist or a Stalin-sympathizer.)

Honestly. I’d be completely happy with two league-average goaltenders that can split the games and be solid in net and spend the money else where. Gives time to raise/aquire a solid prospect net minder. It’s time we build a team to win a few Cups and stop trying to fix the holes in the team as they open up.

Yeah, because league-average goalies have worked out so well for the Flyers over the past 25 years.

They got us in the postseason almost every year…we can’t afford to spend a huge amount of money on a goaltender. It’s only one piece of the puzzle. We had THE future of goaltending, but instead we focused to much on winning now and wasted a lot of money. It’s time to be smart and build a team that can compete for the next 5+ years. But not just compete but be feared. Teams used to be afraid of playing us in Philly. Because we fought hard and had heart. You can’t just throw money at a star goaltender and get heart. Best case scenario, we somehow end up with Ryan Miller and worst case we end up with nothing and have Mason as number one. Instead of overpaying for Miller, which you know Homer would, the smart thing is to settle for a decent guy that can put up solid numbers and focus on other key pieces that are missing from this team.

I think holmgren & snider should dig up pelle’s corpse & have Bernie throw some rink holy water on it to lift the flyer goalie curse. Maybe that might help

Also, if they get him, I’m excited. High upside, and given his age hopefully there wouldn’t be too much of a monetary commitment, so low risk. Then again, you never know what your gonna get with Homer throwing the checkbook around.

I’d guess Tim Thomas stayed in decent shape. Like every good goalie, he’s a space cadet carrying a giant chip on his shoulder. After all he’s accomplished, he still thinks he has something he gotta prove.
I’ve followed him for a decade, from VT., to the Pruins and up to Boston. He’s always been an incredibly hard worker. Yeah, I’m a B’s fan, so I guess I should leave something in the spirit of this forum:
“Go suck dick, you cunty motherfucker twat bag dick-face”
    Aaah, ya gotta love Philly.

Yeah. I do. Since when was he “looking for God”? Since when does that mean he wouldn’t exercise? The guy’s a survivalist. You think he spent is time on the Riviera? Or in a monastery? He was probably hunting liberals.

Are people really complaining about Tim Thomas? lol nothing can please Flyer fans. I know he’s old but it’s not like he won the Vezina in 1995, he won it 2 years ago gimme a break. The guy is a winner and has grit unlike every Flyers goaltender since Ron Hextall. He would give this team a swift kick in the ass they need, and he would also be beneficial to Steve Mason’s career as well like with Rask/Khudobin’s careers. Not to mention he would appeal to the die hard Flyer fans (Because a lot of them happen to be right wingers hehe just saiyan). There are TOO MANY reasons to make this move.
