Former Phillie Dan Meyer Thinks Antonio Bastardo is an Asshole for Beating Him Out for a Roster Spot in 2011

And what a big asshole it must be.

Dan Meyer was signed by the Phillies in November of 2010 and then released on April 3, 2011. He took to Twitter today to express his disgust towards Antonio Bastardo for beating him out for a bullpen spot.

He has every reason to be mad. But, Meyer may want to channel his anger towards his 6.75 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in limited Spring Training action that year rather than Bastardo and his centaurian ass.

The following season, Meyer posted a 7.45 ERA with the Pirates’ AAA affiliate. He’s no longer in baseball.

  1. More importantly… how did you find this? Who the fuck follows Dan Meyer?

      1. Really? It’s been all over the web for hours. You can see it one place and use it. There was nothing to give credit for. Unless he copied words too, then you’re correct.

        1. Like everything on this site, Kyle took it from someone else (Big League Stew) that already did they’re work.

He sits on Twitter and copies/pastes or pays over $100 for 15 minutes of fame.

          1. and you care because?????????? im not gonna go read fucking big league stew i want all my news here on thissite so i dont have to fucking surf the internet all fucking day u stupid fucking cunt

      2. Fair enough, but I still want to know how the first person that posted this found it. Was someone really following Dan Fucking Meyer in the hopes that maybe he’d say something remotely interesting?

  2. “6.75 ERA and 1.88 WHIP”

Let’s be real here Danny boy, I could’ve beaten you out for that roster spot…it’s cool though, blaming others for your failures makes it better.

    FACE

  3. Bastardo from April till the end of August had one of the most incredible stretch runs for a reliever. Did Meyer think he could replicate something like that?

    1. You’re missing the point, dumbass. Bastardo did all of that on PED’s. Meyer is saying that Bastardo wouldn’t have had that success without them, and that he or another pitcher may, MAY have beaten Bastardo out for that spot if Tony hasn’t been shooting up. Meyer’s not saying that he could have done what Bastardo did, he’s saying that because Bastardo cheated, he and other pitchers didn’t get a fair shake

  4. The real issue in baseball with steroid use is not so much the adavantages that are given to a player using PEDs but rather the disadvanatges that are forced upon the players not using PEDs. I’m not saying this Meyers guy would have beaten Bastardo out for a job, but he has a right to be pissed. After the strike of 94, baseball lost revenue and fans. To get the people and money back in the seats they knowingly and willingly sold their soul to the devil by turning a blind eye to the home runs of McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, etc. It has since festered into a monster that they are struggling to get a grip on and may never get a hold of it anyway.

    1. I fell in love with Bastardo, his giant quads and the dirtiest left handed slider (sometimes without the best control) in baseball late in 2010. He carried that success into 2011 and if until Late August 2011, Bastardo had the lowest opponents batting average in the HISTORY OF BASEBALL. THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL. It’s a shame he didn’t have as good of a September, or he would hold the record for the lowest opponents batting average in the HISTORY OF BASEBALL.

It now appears that he had a little help with that, but Dan fuckin Meyer would have lost outright anyway. He stinks (stank? stunk?). Fuck em.

      1. Haha, yeah I agree with the “who the fuck is Dan Meyer” perspective, but maybe we don’t know him or his success because he chose to be clean and honest, which justifies my point even more in that you have to wonder how many players choose to do steroids not so much for the added advantage for them but rather the disadvantage they will be at if they don’t do them. Like I said before, down the road the true justice will come when these guys have failing organs and it willbe then when they will have to ask themselves was it worth it.

        1. That, i agree with 100%. And i have to say, as the only person on the planet other than his mom that calls Bastardo his favorite player, I’m pretty pissed. It does explain those quads though.

        2. And you wanna know something? Eight out of every ten players who juiced will invariably say: Yeah, it was.

  5. Baseball with out steroids will be like porn without Viagra. No one wants that.

  6. Yo, Dan! Enjoy your life now that you’re out of baseball. You damn sure didn’t have a career while you were IN baseball.

  7. WHOA! Add Antonio Bastardo to the “Jeter Zone” of guys who you would never expect anything bad to come out about. This whole thing with Bastardo and Dan Meyer reminds me of that scene in Rounders when Worm shows up at the police station game. Mike McD (Meyer) always wanted to play it straight. But because of guys like Worm (Bastardo) always looking for a leg-up, they end up both getting their ass beat. This is how the actions of one guy affect two. It also led to the downfall of Ray Liotta in Goodfellas, but we’ll save that for the next podcast with JackO.

    Sports Guy – OUT!

  8. Sounds like after a failed MLB career, Dan Meyer has finally found 2 of his 15 minutes of fame. Only 13 more to go Dan. Here’s a tip: If fame and fortune is in your future, you need to find a line of work other than baseball.

  9. I’d like to send some congrats to Ryan Braun for being the only non-spic involved in this Biogenesis thing

    1. Shut up, you red neck piece of shit. I’d like to thank your dad for being such a good sport while I satisfied your mother in front of him. He had no idea your mom could bend that way.

      1. That doesn’t really change the fact that aside from Braun every player involved is a wetback

        1. Hope you said the same crap when that Armstrong was caught doping. You’re a huge STD-infected penis.

  10. Can the one human being who bought a Bastardo jersey trade it in for a throwback Scott Rolen jersey free of charge?

  11. Seriously Kyle, how the fuck did you find this?

  12. I remember playing little league with him. He was a cry baby then and he is still a cry baby. Only difference isn’t daddy in the dug out telling kids on the team to leave his son alone.

    1. or his high school coach not pitching him against the better teams to keep his era low…what a douche

  13. God stop bitching about your dopey little site. Could you please credit big league chew your fucking piece of shit site’s name.

    1. when has he ever done that…name a a single time right now…and the headline…name it

      1. “Former Phillie Dan Meyer Thinks Antonio Bastardo is an Asshole for Beating Him Out for a Roster Spot in 2011”

If you really think Kyle follows Dan Meyer and came up with this on his own, you’re an idiot. Clearly found the story of Big League Stew.

        1. way to not answer my question u stupid fuck and instead just re iterate your orginal point…..my question was, when has kyle ever complained that a website doesnt give hsi site credit

  14. Why is everyone focusing on attacking Dan Meyer when you should be attacking the fact that it is wrong that some guys have been cut out of their careers when the competition uses steroids?
    Also,
Weren’t those ERA and WHIP numbers after he blew his shoulder out and was back from a rehab stint?

    1. because this is philadelphia and we make jokes at the expense of out athletes to make ourselves feel better about ourselves

      -proud but embarassed philly fan

  15. Honestly, who gives a rat’s ass if someone took Steroids/PEDS? I could care less unless of course a piece of cheese falls down onto my seat. That’s when I get really excited.
