Home » Teams » Phillies » Am I Going to Be the Only One to Make the Rollins Should Wear His Weighted Vest Down the First Base Line Joke?
- February 18, 2014
Jimmy Rollins wore a weighted vest while taking grounders yesterday because, yeah, that will make up for a nonchalant attitude and horrible approach at the plate.
Anyway, here goes: Maybe Jimmy should wear that thing while running down the first base line.
Thanks, I’m here all week, unfortunately.

The Phillies must love playing for our fan base. Nothing says try extra hard like constant bashing for a team that has our only championship in 31 years. I understand people are frustrated with how the past couple of seasons have went but come on now. This team has the potential to be a playoff team if theyre healthy. I know huge IF. But they do have some young and potentially good players in Ruf, Brown, Asche. Lets not forget having Hamels and Lee at the top. Burnett can be a solid number 3 too. The Braves are going to win the division but theres no reason to think the Phillies cant finish in 2nd ahead of the Nats.
None of what you wrote changes the fact that Rollins doesn’t always hustle.
Except the Nats were rocked with injureis last year and had just as disapointing a year as the Phils. I would think they are the division favorite.
Weighed and weighted
And you threw in an extra “down”
Do you proof read… at all?
Kyle, statistics say that serial misspellers and misusers of proper grammar have high levels of recidivism. We do offer a diversion programs that will erase these transgressions from your record. And , yes, I DID make up the word “misspellers”… I’m the police and we have different rules…..
i think the extra down was to signify that kyle has down syndrom
downs ain’t funny!
If Jimmy & Howard are healthy & productive, the Phils will be good this season.
And if they are not productive, I think we can expect Ryne Sandberg to give Galvis & Ruf some playing time.
I think we are seeing a whole new level effort & intensity with the new skipper.
Unfortunately Galvis apparently can’t hit or get on base in the majors.
“If” and “I think” just stfu, br patient and watch the games andy
is wrong with you. Are you really that naive or you just know absolutely nothing about Philadelphia sports. Get real
Next spring he will probably be taking grounders in a Hovaround along with Utley and Howard
I completely agree, Kyle! Wear that thing down to first, over and over again.
U guys almost convinced me for a second to get excited for baseball then I remembered our best right handed hitter off the bench will be 40 year old Bobby Abreu. Instantly flaccid.
F the Phillies! I’m paying absolutely no attention to the pre-season “action” and hyped-up optimism. If the team is anywhere reasonably competitive by May 15th, I might jump on the bandwagon, otherwise, it’s just a waste of my time for what could very well be a repeat of last season.
How about you just call Rollins (and D-Jax) a racial slur now and save us the countless posts about how lazy they are?
What’s race got to do with it? Nothing. Jimmy is lazy and happens to be black, but it’s not like we all couldn’t name a hundred lazy white or hispanic baseball players. But if you choose not to acknowledge that Rollins slacks off A LOT when the team isn’t on the front page everyday, then you are either uninformed about the sport or delusional.
Because there are NEVER any articles written about “lazy” or “slacker” players who happen to be White on these blogs. Only the ones who are “scrappy” and “hustle” or “make the most while the least” which is an insult to talented athletes who happen to White. They are talented and hard workers as are their Black counterparts. J-Roll didn’t just roll out of bed and become one of the best Phillies shortstops of all time. Believe it or not, he worked hard to get where he is.
Nobody with a non-special IQ believes Rollins didn’t work hard to get to where he is, but that still doesn’t negate the fact that he doesn’t always run out grounders and has been reprimanded twice for lazy play. stop LZ Grandersoning everything just because a lazy guy happens to be African-American.
I don’t get the joke….I am serious
I don’t get the joke….I’m serious
A better joke would’ve been something along the lines of “well, sure looks like jimmy is wearing that weighted vest jogging to 1st base again!”
Rollins may not be perfect, but he’s hands down the franchise’s best SS ever and yet constantly gets bashed.
Yes, he got the job for being better than Desi Relaford. His mom should be so proud.
Yeah, 2,000 + hits or for the SABR people an fWAR in the 40s and he only got the job because of Relaford.
Hey douche, you win the award for most insightful comment ever! If not for your 2 comments here, nobody would ever know that Rollins WAS a good player.
