Report: Phils Probably Won’t Sign A.J. Burnett

Ruben Amaro, speaking to Jim Salisbury:

“I don’t suspect we’ll be doing anything,” he said Friday. “I think we’ve got what we’ve got. I suspect we’ll go into the season with what we’ve got – or at least spring training with what we’ve got. We’re always looking, always trolling. I know there are guys out there, but I don’t suspect us having anything major coming through.”

Of course, the one player who would’ve made sense. Also of course: Amaro lies.

  1. “Always trolling” ..well Rube, that explains your last few offseasons I suppose

  2. Always Trolling huh??? I guess that’s the answer to why Amaro invited Abreu to spring training…

  3. Braves
    Nationals
    Mets
    Marlins
    Phillies

this will be the final 2014 NL east standings(BOOK IT)

    1. This right here is the bottom line. These guys pretended like they were going to be the Yankees for a while, selling their future and spending big bucks to stay competitive. Now they’ve decided they’re over it and they’re just mailing it in. Now they no longer want to spend the money to land the big free agents, and they’re content with signing a bunch of misfits year after year and PRAYING that the fans come back. It’s a joke.

  4. Of course, why add someone who might actually help and win some games. Burnett has not yet signed up for AARP or his ERA is too low!

  5. I wanted them to sign Matt Garza who went to Milwaukee on the cheap he would of been a great no.3 in the lineup as a starter. Everyone. Thinks the problem is Rubin amaro but he is not the problem Montgomery. And. Giles plus buck and Middleton fuck this team they will always sux until they get new ownership.

Look at Rube. Spring training hasn’t even started yet, and he’s already given up on improving this team.
