Phillies Broadcasters Finish 26th in Awful Announcing Poll

Awful Announcing, pretty much the go-to site for your sports broadcasting news, today released their MLB local broadcast rankings, which are based on reader feedback. Coming in at 26? Tom McCarthy and the Phillies broadcast team:
The jury may still be out on Philadelphia’s new broadcast team, and they may have finished lower if the Tom McCarthy/Chris Wheeler/Garry Matthews trio was still calling games this year. We don’t have much of a sample for Stairs, Moyer, and Schmidt (in this incarnation, at least), but I think they’ll end up getting into a nice groove as the season goes on.
I’ve yet to write my review of the new crew because I think it’s a bit unfair to judge Moyer and Stairs yet seeing as though they’ve barely had time to get acclimated to working on TV and sitting next to Tom McCarthy for 3-4 hours per day. But T-Mac alone brings any broadcast down with his cheesy presence, and the early returns on Moyer and Stairs aren’t good.
Here’s the feedback about Phillies broadcasters that Awful Announcing chose to feature:
“Phillies TV is hard to listen to/watch. Phillies radio (awesome) makes me plan road trips around Phillies game times.”
“The Phillies have the absolute worst telecast in the MLB. Jamie Moyer makes me feel like I took 30 sleeping pills.”
Can’t disagree with either of those assessments. We’ll give it some time… but this seems like a fair finish T-Mac and crew.
