Lee Won’t Need Surgery and Cole Hamels Reportedly Claimed by the Cubs

First, the semi-good news … actually, none of this is even good or bad news considering the state of this team, just news: Although he will not pitch again this season and won’t likely throw a ball until “October or November,” Cliff Lee won’t need surgery.

And in other Phillies (neutral) news, Cole Hamels and Marlon Byrd have reportedly both been claimed off of waivers. Hamels’ suitors are apparently the Chicago Cubs, and Byrd’s team is still unknown. Both of these bits are unsurprising and, as of now, meaningless since the Phillies can always pull those players off of waivers if they do not like the deals that are being thrown their way (or really, just because they want to).

  1. Cubs have A TON of prospects. I wonder if they let him go…I doubt it, but that’s damn sure a team that has some talent in the system.

  2. I doubt a trade will happen but if one does the Phillies better get Kris Bryant and either Addison Russell or Javier Baez in return. If not, trading Hamels for anything less will be a total mistake.

  3. Ruben Amaro versus Theo Epstein….yeah, who do you think will win that one. Theo eats pieces of s*&% like Ruben for breakfast.

  4. With Amaro’s wheeling and dealing, he’ll probably ask for 6-7 prospects of questionable value and ask the Cubs to “throw in one of them there rooftop party decks you got across the street.” “That would be pretty sweet in the summertime.”

  5. Wonder who in the Phillies organization leaks this information to Mike. Amaro hates him. If Ruben knew he would have the employee terminated.
