Let the mass exodus begin. It’s unfortunate, but the key “piece” this team desperately needs to unload, will be going nowhere.

Dodgers signed free agent SP Brandon McCarthy. He’s not an ace, but I doubt they’re going to pursue Hamels any further.

Or Flip McCarthy to the Phills?

McCarthy is 30 and the definition of mediocrity. He’ll be a good back-end starter for the Dodgers but won’t be of much use to a team that’s rebuilding like the Phillies.

Couldn’t the Phillies have just signed McCarthy themselves?

They could have, but didn’t. The Dodgers signed him and the Phillies will need to replace Hamels with a decent pitcher, non prospect type. McCarthy could be that pc.

Realize I’m just throwing shit at the wall much like Howard Eskin does. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Dodgers signed Mcarthy as part of a viable package deal to the Phillies for Hamels, or maybe even Lee.

Why would the Phillies take on a four-year, $48M commitment for a mediocre pitcher, Ma? They ain’t winning anytime soon. All you need to fill in is a cheap farm hand or an ML pitcher coming off a bad year who’s looking for a cheap one-year-deal to reestablish their value.

          • Your Mother December 12, 2014 at 2:01 pm

Why would a team throw a HUGE long term contract at a guy who has 2 years left on his current contract for less $? Why would a team who has a real shot at the WS trade a top pitcher for a steamy pile of shit just to sign him as a FA later? Even the most tanky tankerson of a team in MLB has “decent” pitching staff on hand. 11m per season is half of what Hamels makes.

They’re trying to shed payroll, not add it. Case in point, the salary dump that was the Bastardo trade.

. . .only if it is for Tom McCarthy.

Can anyone imagine if we didn’t have the Eagles keeping this city afloat? We have 3 garbage teams and 1 that is at least a QB away from being a contender. The Schreiber family discussed this at length during the family reunion last weekend. My brother, regular Andy, was pis$-as$ drunk but he suggested the birds make it known that Cox ( hehe Cox) or Kendricks are available and see if we can’t use them to move up in the draft and take a legit QB. Without a real QB we are doomed to get to the playoffs, maybe win a game or two, and then lose to the Packers. Smartest drunk thing regular Andy has said in a long time.

Seems that the Dodgers are loading up with players for a major trade. Hamels may be next, just trying to get enough players to trade and not drain their prospect pool.

Best player they got in that deal was Heaney, who they flipped to the Angels for Howie Kendrick.

    1) Howard the reason is buds are getting shipped out? If he were hitting somewhat close to where we expected the last 4-5 years, maybe the Phils are adding players to jump back up instead of dumping. Eventually one of his team buds will say “dude, if you worried as much about hitting as you do building your beachfront mansion… this could all be different”

    2) Amaro: he’s been there long enough that we are now unwinding all his bad decisions and contracts?! if you are cleaning house…

Money hasn’t been a major obstacle for the Phillies since the team reacquired Lee for the 2010 season. Middleton could make it rain cash, but it wouldn’t do the team any good. The Phillies just have so many holes to fill and their minor league system is almost completely bereft of talent. No amount of spending in free agency can fix this mess.

Is our friend Andy out there anywhere?
I desperately need him to post and tell us that the Dodgers will be giving us Kyle Seager and Joc Pederson for a package of Freddy Galvis and Carlos Ruiz. Please, Andy, make it right.
