I’m not a meteorologist, but here’s what I’ve gleaned from following our STORM Twitter list— a collection of weather folks providing a much more accurate and informed forecast than what you’ll see on TV: It gon’ snow.

It looks like there are two scenarios for the Philly metropolitan area: 1) If the system that is currently diving down toward the Southeast, this one…

… takes shape off the coast of, say, North Carolina, then the Philly area will get the higher end of snow amounts (anywhere from 8-20, depending on where you live) and the New York-Long Island area will get walloped by FEET of snow. 2) If the system takes longer to develop and doesn’t fully form until it’s off the coast of New Jersey, then we’re looking at the lower end (anywhere from 4-12, it seems) while New England takes the brunt of it, with New York-Long Island still getting upwards of two feet. All of the smarts agree that the Philly area is the hardest to predict right now– New York and New England get IT no matter what, but depending on how quickly it forms, we either get a moderate snow storm or SNOWMAGEDDON. The roundup:

Follow our STORM Twitter list— it’s been making me hate local news and I just want to scream at my TV, “THERE’S A NEW MODEL, DAMMIT! THE NAM CAME IN LOWER BUT THE EURO IS SCREAMING BOMBOGENESIS!”

Sorry, J-Bo briefly took over my humanoid vessel.

The Royal Rumble was pretty terrible despite an awesome Triple Threat Championship match between Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins and John Cena. The Rumble winner, Roman Reigns, was, yep, booed out of the building, even after his assist from The Rock:

The first half of the Royal Rumble was incredible; Bubba Ray Dudley, DDP, Boogeyman all made “surprise” appearances early on. Daniel Bryan entered the ring at number 10, however to much shock was eliminated by Bray Wyatt after just 10 minutes in the ring. Personally I am fine with Bryan being eliminated, however after this pivotal moment, EVERYTHING went down hill for WWE.

Following Daniel’s elimination, the crowd shared their displeasure; rather than reacting with surprise and creative entries, we saw a run of stale entries that delivered nothing. The ending became inevitable, Roman Reigns was booed out of the building upon his entry to the match. The only saving grace was Dean Ambrose entering the match at number 25.

For real, had it been outside, he probably would’ve (and should’ve) been hit by snow balls.

Nick Piccone over at Bleed Philly has an excellent recap of the Rumble and Jim Ross’ one-man show. And Matt Mullin over at the Philly Voice has his take. And Zoo With Roy’s.

Talks to send Jonathan Papelbon to the Brewers have reportedly stalled, because of course they have.

New Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred wants to ban the shift… just in time for the demise of Ryan Howard(!):

On his first day in office as Major League Baseball Commissioner, Rob Manfred said he would consider eliminating the defensive shift from baseball as part of a broader set of offensive-minded reforms, according to an ESPN interview.

“Things like eliminating shifts, I would be open to those sorts of ideas,” Manfred told ESPN’s Karl Ravech.

“We have really smart people working in the game. And they’re going to figure out ways to get a competitive advantage. I think it’s incumbent upon us in the commissioner’s office to look at the advantages that are produced and say, ‘Is this what we want to happen here?'”

Video here.

Meanwhile, Manfred explains why financially disgraced Mets owner Fred Wilpon will make A GREAT finance committee chair.

Jakub Voracek had quite the All-Star Weekend. He had a hat trick in the game [video] and did something quirky in the skills competition [video].

Here’s the GQ article about Roger Goodell that everyone will be talking about.

Chris Berman pissed about something again.

Philly swimmer might be the next Michael Phelps.

Good article by one of the YouTubers who interviewed the President.

Love the Philly Police Twitter account winter theme they have going:

Bill Belichick balls.

Bill Nye says Bill Belichick is wrong.

SNL’s parody of the press conferences was good, but it was outdone by Wishin Boot.
