The word “phenom” is being tossed around again, this time for 19-year-old Cuban defector Yoan Moncada [Editor’s note: soon they can just fly here, right?]. MLB has changed their policy regarding Cuban players — thanks Obama … really — and as of yesterday, Moncada was immediately eligible to sign with a team. And the list of teams interested includes the Phillies.

To be fair, the list of teams interested in the switch-hitting infielder is very long. The Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Padres and Tigers are right out in the front of it, while Moncada has took part in workouts hosted by the Brewers, Rays, Giants and Rangers. The Cubs and Cardinals have also reportedly expressed interest. Considering the Phillies didn’t end up signing Yasmany Tomas with a much less-crowded field of suitors, we’re not going to hold our breath on this one either.
