Ho boy.

So Josh and Tony sent an errand boy and flowers to Greater Media’s offices, where they were met by police, apparently called by 97.5 to keep them out of the building. One of the guys got in and attempted to deliver the flowers to 97’5s office and studio on the fourth floor, but never made it and was told “that floor is not accepting deliveries.” And now we return to our regularly scheduled Villanova one seed, Tim Tebow in town and Cliff Lee going on 60-day DL sports talk.

IS CINDERELLA DANCING?

Tony Bruno and Josh Innes are declaring themselves the victor over Mike Missanelli for virtually all demos except 18-34 in the latest Arbitron ratings release:

Innes: You know what we could do, we can play a little “End of the Road” for Bitchinelli too … Within one month, this big, bad beast has been slayed already. I mean Andy was like “this will take you guys months to beat him, we’ll see how it goes,” boom. Within nanoseconds we’re beating the guy. Bruno: We’re like the one seed now. We’re like Villanova.

Innes: One month in, and Innes and Bruno is the number one sports radio show in the afternoon here in Philadelphia. That’s right Missanelli. You said it was a clown show. You scoffed at us while you were doing general knowledge Wednesday with your bitch boy, now look at you. You’re losing to a bunch of bozos. You’re losing to two guys who you never thought had a chance to beat you … I don’t know if we consider you actual competition at this point. It only took us one month to beat you Bitchinelli. I thought your lead was strong than that, but you know [Innes starts butchering the chorus of the classic Boyz II Men breakup jam “End of the Road”] “Although we’ve come, to the end of Mike’s road, still he can’t let go. He’s a bitchy man, losing to some clowns, he’s a douchebaaaaaag.”

Mike, today, is publically implying that the chest pounding is all LIES, or at least a fabrication:

We’ve gotten our hands on at least one cross-section of Arbitron ratings – an important one – and indeed, WIP won the 25-54 male demo from 2-6 from January 29 to February 25, finishing fourth, two spots ahead of 97.5, in their ratings share. Those numbers are confirmed, as are the claims of ratings victories for the 18-54 and 35-64 demos. In the latter demo, WIP won handily, which is expected. In the two younger ones – 25-54, 18-54 – they held roughly a 10% lead over 97.5.

Now, few things: The first few days of that period didn’t include Tony and Josh (they started on February 3) and did include Wing Bowl afternoon – Friday, January 30 – which I can only assume helped WIP substantially. But the gap between WIP and 97.5 is not statistically insignificant, and even if the ratings win was buoyed by that Super Bowl week, which 97.5 would probably like to be the case, it would mean that WIP’s patchwork shows leading up to Tony and Josh absolutely crushed Mike. It seems hard to believe that one or just a few days could skew ratings that much. All we know is that 20% of the ratings period didn’t include Tony and Josh paired together. In fact, Josh was on fake suspension for at least two of those days.

Tony and Josh are claiming victory for virtually all demos with the exception of 18-34, where 97.5 typically kills WIP. On the air, Josh was implying that sources cited in our post last week, claiming Mike edged Tony and Josh in initial weekly ratings, were incorrect. I have no reason to believe that’s the case– still believe that Mike edged Tony and Josh in the first two weekly head-to-heads, in at least specific demos. But yep, WIP beat 97.5 from 2-6 in virtually every demo from January 29 to February 25, per Arbitron people meters. And as we speak, Josh and Tony just sent a dozen black roses to Greater Media in a move straight outta Degeneration X.
