When Chip Kelly popped up behind a podium for a surprise press conference the day that the Eagles officially announced they’d acquired Sam Bradford, he told the gathered media that a team had offered him a first round pick for Bradford that very morning. Many people called bullshit on this, but Chip wasn’t lying. As Adam Caplan reported, the Cleveland Browns offered the #19 pick for Sam Bradford. Chip said no.

Y U no, Chip? Y U no?

This means one of quite a few things, the simplest being that Chip actually thinks Sam Bradford is his quarterback. Assuming that’s not the case, there are a few other options. Either Chip didn’t think #19 and #20 were enough to move up (potentially as high as #2) to get Mariota, Chip wants to wait on Cleveland and see if they instead offer the #12 pick they also own for Bradford (which Chip could use to move up or just use), or Chip is waiting on another suitor to get something better in return for Bradford. Of course, Chip said Bradford is there to stay (for now, in so many words) and he’s a quarterback they’re excited about. But they’ve got to be more excited about the prospect of Mariota, right?
