Go watch House of Cards. I finished Season 3 last night and it was amazing. Completely made up for the misshapen clusterfuck that was Season 2. It was maybe the best acted “TV” season I’ve ever seen. The arc for every single character, even the ancillary ones, was engrossing. Not sure I’ve ever watched something where I cared about every storyline like this, even though the stakes in many cases were personal. Will probably have a spoiler-free review later.

Let’s hit it!

The roundup:

The Phillies lost to D-II Tampa yesterday, thanks in part to Andrew Amaro, nephew of Ruben, who displayed to his uncle the difference between a plate appearance and an at-bat by working a bases-loaded walk to tie the game for Tampa in the seventh. After that, some college student hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach for the team that plays in the National League.

After that, Sad Ruben, as photographed by reader Joe:

Keep looking at that phone, Rube, that’ll solve all your problems.

Now, there are some mitigating factors here:

1) The Phillies rolled out a lineup that consisted of a bunch of guys who will be bagging groceries next month.

2) Some have pointed out that Tampa is every bit as good as many D-I teams. [I’d counter with the Phillies play in the National League.]

3) MLB teams play college teams quite often early in spring training, they probably lose more than we think, right? Wrong. The last time would appear to be when the Marlins lost to the Miami Hurricanes in 2011.

So the next question is: Could Kentucky beat the Phillies?

CBS broke Braydon Coburn trade at 2 a.m., Flyers beat writers passively bitches about it not being on their schedule:

The fact that there’s an article about Darin Ruf, who’s 28, that treats him like an up and comer tells you all you need to know about the Phillies right now.

This guy is an absolute genius, though I’d keep the electronic device maybe just a little farther from the water:

Why is it everything Russia does has to be shady (and I’m not even talking about their president probably authorizing the assassination of an opponent)?

This makes me sad a little bit:

WHO YOU GOT– Melissa, Cecily or Karen?

All I know is that David Murphy won the weekend. And Cecily ages like the finest wine ever:

Her, um, career growth is impressive.

Howie Roseman speaks and says that mortgaging the future for one stud draft pick usually doesn’t work… except when it does.

An attempt at tracking Sixers draft picks.

The JaVale McGee era is over. After coming over in a trade just so the Sixers could get a draft pick, the legendary JaVale McGee was waived last night. The move will allow McGee to continue to get paid a ridiculous amount, while allowing him to be signed by a playoff team in the future. McGee, as a player, is an entertaining piece of what the hell is he doing. We’ll always have this:

Billy Murray caught the La Salle vs. Rhode Island game this weekend, because his son Luke is an assistant coach for Rhode Island. He just looks thrilled (note: this is always his face).

But that’s not even the best part, because afterwards, he hung out in a local music studio with Paul Shaffer and … uh … Rick Ross. He really is the most interesting man in the world.

Delco’s own (and one of three NBA refs who are O’Hara grads, if you don’t count Tim Donaghy) Joey Crawford is out there doing what joey Crawford does: making an ass out of himself.

Wildwood is openly trying to allow less fun, but this quote from Mayor Ernie Troiano makes it all worth it: “Allowing more EDM concerts this summer could have been ‘a major shift back to those dark days,’ Troiano said.”

Marshawn Lynch speaks.

SI’s Ronda Rousey video. And here she is winning her fight in 14 seconds.
